Kim Possible Dog Names

In Wilson Rawls' Where the Red Fern Grows, readers learn of a young boy growing up in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas during the Great Depression. He often works to help his parents pay the bills around the house, a reflection of the economy of the time. All the time, Billy (our lead character) wishes for a pair of hunting hounds. Knowing that his parents cannot afford to buy the dogs for him, our protagonist finds work outside the home. He saves his wages and purchases two Redbone Coonhounds, a brother and sister. Billy even saves the money to have the pups shipped to him. (A very sweet note is that Billy gives the money that he has left after purchasing the pups and paying for their shipping to his parents.) Billy works continually to care for his pups. He also spends as much time as possible working with the dogs. Eventually, he is ready to take the pups out in the hunting field. 

The pups, a brother and sister pair, are called Old Dan and Little Ann. They are a team. Always determined, the pair chase a raccoon into a tree on one of their first hunts. Equally obstinate, the raccoon stays in the tree for four days. The pair of hounds never leave their treed prey, however. Knowing that the pair will not leave, Billy eventually cuts the tree down (by hand with an ax - remember, the story is set in the early part of the twentieth century before power saws became commonplace; it is likely that Billy's family would not have had the means to own one anyway). 

Ann is the complete opposite of her brother in many ways, and Ann is a stabilizing factor for her brother. Old Dan might go in and destroy a few things; Ann is more of a "wait and see" pup. They compliment each other perfectly, though. When Old Dan passes away, his litter mate is not far behind. She could not stand to live without him. Theirs is a love story, although not in a romantic one. It is the ultimate friendship and partnership.
