The Mac Nimir Bridge in Sudan links Khartoum with Khartoum North across the Blue Nile. Mac is also the name of a pup that has an important job as the Chief Cheer Officer and therapy dog for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana. He is an Australian Labradoodle, and on the organization’s website, Mac explains that “like all Ronald McDonald House staff, my position as Chief Cheer Officer requires specific education and training”. The dog spent his first six months of life learning from trainers at Ultimate Canine in Westfield, IN, who then donated him to the House. Mac further explains that he feels he is a perfect match for the House, stating, “my high energy and goofy personality can bring a smile to anyone in need”.

According to his profile on the agency website, Mac likes to learn new things and learns special tasks quickly. He reports that his favorite command is “knuckles”, which is where he gets to hold hands with his friends. It is explained on his page that his breed is hypoallergenic, which means that he can interact with all of the kids that are staying at the House, even if they have a suppressed immune system or an allergy to other pups. Mac admits that he does get tired at times, since there are so many kids and families that are in need of some “love”. The popular pooch explains that “it feels really good when I see their faces light up and forget their troubles while we are together”. According to Mac, “I might just be the luckiest dog in the world”. Fortunately for Mac and his friends, Parkside Animal Hospital has offered to cover any veterinary services that he requires and Cleopatra Luxury Pet Services has donated their grooming services so that Mac can get shampoos and haircuts as he needs them.

Mac is also the name of an 18-month-old German Shephard who was trained by Stamford police officers to become the fourth dog of the city's K-9 unit. Mac is apparently quite enthusiastic and has a lot of energy. Fortunately, Mac does a good job listening to his handler, Dave Dogali, returning to all fours when told “down”. Mac is trained to search buildings, participate in apprehensions and search areas to recover evidence and detect narcotics. When Mac completes his tasks, he is reward with the chance to play with a yellow ball tied to a bit of rope with a wooden handle.
