Introduction
The capital and largest city of Uganda, Kampala is divided into five boroughs; Kampala Central Division, Kawempe Division, Makindye Division, Nakawa Division and Rubaga Division. Kampala has been named the 13th fastest growing city on the planet; its annual population growth rate is 4.03 percent. The city, which has a tropical rainforest climate, has also been ranked as the best city in East Africa to live in by Mercer, a global development consulting agency.
In addition to receiving plenty of rainfall and growing at a fast pace, Kampala is also a great place to turn for unique name ideas, one of which may be just right for your dog.
Kampala Dog Names In Pop Culture
Stand-up comedian Arthur Simeon was born in Kampala. Now living and working in Canada, Arthur travels the country performing and also has a debut comedy album called Born and Raised. Arthur is also the name of a dog that gained media attention after joining a team participating in the Adventure Racing World Championship.
The pup met the team of four Swedish athletes as they sat down for a meal before beginning a 20-mile trek through the rainforest of Equador. After opening their canned meat, Mikael Lindnord saw the stray dog looking at him. He fed the pooch a meatball and did not think much of it. But when the team got up to continue the race, the dog began to follow them; and stayed with them for the duration of the event. Ultimately given the name Arthur, the pup embarked on each of the difficult tasks the team encountered. He swam along next to them while they kayaked down rivers, climbed up hills and worked his way through knee-deep mud.
At one point, before a 36 mile kayak around the coast, organizers warned the team that taking Arthur along for the segment would be a risk to the dog’s safety and the safety of the rest of the team. The team tried to set off without him, however, Arthur refused to be left, jumping in after them and paddling desperately. Lindnord ultimately picked up the pup and put him in his kayak for the rest of the ride. Thus, when Arthur got tired, the team stopped for a break and they pulled him out of the mud when he got stuck. Arthur spent six days with the team engaged in very difficult activities and once they finished the race, the team took him to the vet for a check-up. After the experience, Lindnord knew he could not leave Arthur behind and decided to adopt the pup and bring him home to Sweden. He applied to the Jordburksverket, which is the Swedish Board of Agriculture, where he had to wait for approval in order to bring his new friend home. Fortunately, approval was given and Arthur was able to join his new friend and begin his life in a new home.
According to Lindnord, “I came to Ecuador to win the World Championship. Instead, I got a new friend”.
