Jakarta Dog Names

Bailey arrived in Indonesia ready to begin a career with the Indonesian National Police Force where her role is to help stop wildlife trade in Indonesia under the guidance and supervision of JAAN. The first dog trained to detect that primates are being smuggled, Bailey learned her trade at the Scent Imprint for Dogs Center in the Netherlands with the help of samples of different Indonesian wildlife species. Bailey’s job is key; wildlife crime impacts the entire eco-system and ultimately human life. Since Indonesia is home to a lot of the world’s biodiversity (it has the third highest number of species in the world), the country plays a key role. Indonesia has a “Wildlife Crime Unit” within their police and the Dutch government/embassy works with this unit in support of their efforts.

Agnes Monica is a pop star who was born in Jakarta. Also a songwriter and actress, Agnes has recorded three children's albums. Agnes is also the name of a pup that not only gained media attention, but was the inspiration behind the Agnes Fund, which helps senior dogs. Agnes was found abandoned at a dog park in 2009, tied to a fence with terrible ear infections. A rescuer took her in and nursed her to health, finding a home for her with a senior woman. The pair spent their days gardening and enjoying being together. Unfortunately, in 2011, Agnes’ companion passed away and Agnes again needed a home. The organization Labradors & Friends heard of her situation and put out a plea for a foster home that would likely also be her forever home. As she was an older pup with medical needs (chronic ear infections and frequent incontinence), adoption did not seem likely. Agnes was welcome in her new foster home, where she grieved for her human and learned that her new family loved her very much. Despite her age, Agnes was full of spunk. She struggled to get up and down, however, was a pro at getting food off of counters and raiding garbage cans. And she also loved to bug the family cats. To her foster family, her “naughtiness” made her more adorable.

Agnes went to many adoption events and was taken to the vet for natural pain relief to help with her stiffness. Over time, she started to perk up. She joined her foster family on trips to the beach where she was seen acting like a puppy as she frolicked in the bay. Agnes enjoyed a cross country trip with her foster family and proved to be an excellent traveler. At each stop, she would get out of the car and enthusiastically sniff the air. Her adventures included seeing Mount Rushmore, chasing balls in Wyoming and a walk around Chicago’s Millennium Park. Unfortunately, a tumor on Agnes' spleen burst and led to internal bleeding. Her foster mom knew then that it was time to let her go. She died in the arms of her foster family.

The Agnes fund was developed to help dogs like Agnes; those over the age of eight, who are often overlooked in favor of puppies and young adult dogs. Through the Agnes Fund, Labradors & Friends are able to help as many senior dogs as possible.
