Introduction
Islamabad was built as a planned city in the 1960s to replace Karachi as the capital of Pakistan and is known for having a high standard of living, safety and a lot of greenery. The city is Pakistan’s ninth largest, with over one million residents, while the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan area has the third largest population in the country with over four million residents. The city is located in the Potohar Plateau, in the northeastern part of Pakistan. The city is divided into eight zones and offers multiple parks and forests.
The city offers a lot to explore, including numerous potential monikers, one of which may be perfect for your canine companion.
Islamabad Dog Names in Pop Culture
The Rose and Jasmine Garden is a recreation area and park in Islamabad. This beautiful garden site is a favorite destination for picnicking and walking. Jasmine is also the name of a Greyhound who was abandoned and wound up being a surrogate mother to more than 50 animals.
When Jasmine arrived at a wildlife sanctuary, she was shivering and desperate for food. The police had found her dumped in a garden shed and brought her to the Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary. Jasmine was filthy and it took several weeks for her to fully trust sanctuary staff. With a lot of love, the dog was nursed back to health. Apparently, the kindness and patience that Jasmine experienced rubbed off on her and she has been returning the favor, becoming a surrogate mom to animals in need. For example, Bramble, an 11-week-old roe deer fawn was found semi-conscious in a nearby field. Jasmine cuddles up to the fawn to keep her warm and showers her with affection. She even makes sure that her fur is not matted.
Jasmine has cared for five fox cubs, four badger cubs, 15 chicks, eight guinea pigs, two stray puppies, and 15 rabbits. According to Geoff Grewcock who runs the sanctuary, “She simply dotes on the animals as if they were her own. It’s incredible to see." Grewcock continues, explaining, “As soon as an animal is brought in, she walks over, takes a sniff or two and then licks and cuddles them." What is particularly amazing is that Greyhounds can be quite aggressive.
Grewcock remember when Jasmine was brought to the sanctuary, noting that “She was very nervous around us, she was caked in mud and dust and very thin. It took a while but gradually she got used to us and has been at the centre ever since." Jasmine is said to also be great with children.
When Bramble, the fawn, came to the sanctuary after she was found by a dog walker, Jasmine took her under her paw. Until she is old enough to be released back into the wild, Jasmine will care for her. According to Grewcock, the pair are inseparable; “Bramble walks between her legs and they keep kissing each other. They walk together round the sanctuary."
Grewcock notes though, that species does not matter when it comes to Jasmine’s mothering. “She is like that with all of our animals, even the rabbits which Greyhounds usually chase down the track."
Islamabad Dog Name Considerations
Don’t growl in frustration when struggling to choose a name for your pup. Take a deep breath and think about what is important to you in a name. If finding a name that has meaning to you is key, then think of a place that you care about and explore it virtually. You will come across all that the city offers, from parks, neighborhoods, food and well-known residents. Take note of potential names that interest you and give them a try on your new canine pal.
If Islamabad is a place that you care about, a closer look will provide you with a myriad of name possibilities. You can name your pup Umair for Umair Jaswal, a film and television actor, singer and songwriter born in Islamabad. For those who are a fan of the outdoors, you can consider the name Fatima for your pup, after Fatima Jinnah Park in Islamabad.
No matter what name you ultimately decide best fits your dog, with a moniker from Islamabad, each time you call for your pup you will be reminded of the city and all that it offers.
