It all starts with a guy named Gary Hampton. Gary is 19 years old, has just become the owner of a record store and is looking to make a sustainable future for himself. One day a pair of aspiring musicians come into Gary's shop. The young man takes a liking to the musicians and uses what capital he has to promote them. The musicians end up making huge waves, leading Gary to become a fairly rich man. He then invests this money in the software and telecommunications industries and becomes a very rich man six years later.

It's around this time that Gary and his fiancé Rebecca decide to take a trip. It's during this trip that Gary's world is completely upside down. In the middle of the night, Gary is savagely attacked by a werewolf! The man is mauled within an inch of his life - his injuries so grizzly that he falls into a coma for about one month's time. When Gary regains consciousness, he finds himself inexplicably healed. Not long after leaving the hospital, Gary heals from his injuries at an inhuman rate. To top it all off, Gary begins transforming into a bestial form of his own at night - rampaging and wrecking just about everything in sight.

Gary is soon contacted by an ancient vampire who offers to help him control his abilities. After three weeks of non-stop training, Gary is able to control his lupine powers. Seeking to do good, Gary debuts as the Astounding Wolf-Man and helps a slew of helpless victims escape from a deadly fire. Later on down the line, he'd join the Guardians of the Universe and fight side-by-side with heroes like Invincible.
