Introduction

The story of Into the Woods was originally a musical that was written by Stephen Sondheim, which was based off the book by James Lapine. Both versions tell of an intriguing plot where the main characters are taken from the Brothers Grimm fairy tales such as "Jack in the Beanstalk", "Cinderella", "Rapunzel", and "Little Red Riding Hood" and a tale unfolds about a baker and his wife who desire to have a child. Because they cannot, the pair turns to a witch for aid; of course, this type of interaction rarely goes as planned and the couple is cursed instead of blessed with a child. They must then interact with these other fairy tale characters to reverse the curse and journey towards their ultimate goal; having a child of their own. The musical was then turned into a movie by Disney Productions in 2014  and features a much more PG version than the musical (which tends to have some very adult themes throughout). Filled with wonderful music and great actors, such as Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp, the movie is a must see for anyone who loves classic fairy tales with a new and exciting twist.

Into the Woods Dog Name Considerations

A few dog breed candidates that would fit the theme of this genre perfectly may be the German Shepherd, Leonberger, Great Dane, Rottweiler, Boxer, and the German Spaniel. You may be wondering why these breeds specifically are singled out. Well, the simple answer is because the Grimm Brothers,  who wrote many of the original fairy tales, were from Germany! So, if you have any of the breeds listed above, the names from Into the Woods would be extremely fitting for them. However, if you do not have a German breed, that's completely okay. Many of the names that we've included in this list incorporate meanings from other cultures. Find one that you like, and match it with your dog; whether that is with personality (matching things like music feel or character type), color (dark coats would be perfect for the woods or the evil from the witch), or size (there are both giants and fairies in these stories). There are many ways to make the names work perfectly for your pup. We are confident that you are bound to fall in love with one of the beautiful names that capture the mystery of fairy tales, the forest, and all that lies within.
