Introduction
Ice Age Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
A very talented canine carries the namesake of Manny the mammoth; this Best in Breed winner of the 2016 Westminster Kennel Club is Manny Machado, an Xoloitzcuintli from Minnetonka, MN. He is actually named after Manny Machado, third baseman of the Baltimore Orioles. He carries his mammoth responsibilities well though, as he travels the continent working on his career as a show dog.
Zeke the Wonder Dog is a series of talented pups so named for generations; they are Frisbee dogs who perform and entertain during the halftime shows at Michigan State University. Typically, the Labrador is the dog to carry this Ice Age moniker; these talented dogs entertain the sports fans and have also competed in disc-catching championships nationwide.
In the first movie, we are introduced to a number of fascinating characters. There is Sid the Sloth who is so adorably awkward that you cannot help but love him. The rest of his family might have ditched him to escape the Ice Age (and him) but any one of us would have gladly adopted him. He provided us with comedic relief and made us all want to be better people. All throughout the movie, he shows how much he cares. He might be a little annoying, alright- he is very annoying, but you would be hard-pressed to find someone who is as kind as Sid.We also get to meet Manny, a grumpy mammoth who has some serious baggage. He might not be as light-hearted as Sid, but the mammoth cares deeply. Once you get past all the layers, you find a loyal friend who would do anything for you. There is also Diego, who turns against his nature to do the right thing. He shows incredible courage and loyalty despite starting out on the wrong path.
But most importantly, we meet a tribe of humans. This tribe has to survive the harsh conditions and learn to survive in a hostile world. This tribe is what brings the herd together. When Diego's pack attacks the tribe, a child is separated from his mother. His mother entrusted her child to Manny before sadly disappearing into a freezing lake. Manny took his assignment very seriously and what follows is an attempt to reunite the baby, Roshan, with his family. The journey bound the group together and the moment they give Roshan back to his father, everyone watching let out a cheer.
These humans had a tough life, and those who got separated probably did not make it home very often. It must have been a relief when they got baby Roshan back. Life was tough, but the human tribe had help from their dire wolves. These dogs were descended from wolves but eventually were domesticated by humans. The dire wolves fought alongside their beloved human friends to get away from the vicious pack of wolves. If it had not been for the dogs, Roshan's father might have never seen his son again. It was the dogs who made him wait for one more second, which led to the reunion. This shows how intelligent, skilled and loving those dogs were. They were truly remarkable pets.
