Introduction
Since the inception of Disney Channel in 1983, plenty of television films have been produced exclusively for the cable network. During the network’s early years, these films were known as Disney Channel Premiere Films. However, starting in late 1997, these movies started to be referred to as Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOM). The DCOM banner has spawned a plethora of commercially successful films and has kickstarted the careers of many artists. One of the earliest DCOMs that became a hit is the 2001 comedy family film Hounded. Starring Tahj Mowry and Shia LaBeouf, the plot is centered on 13-year-old Jay Martin, who unintentionally comes home with his school headmaster’s beloved show dog.
Hounded Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
The 2001 film Hounded is a Disney Channel Original Movie that stars Tahj Mowry, Craig Kirkwood and Shia LaBeouf. The film starts with 13-year-old student Jay Martin talking to his mother about the Donald Peterson scholarship that he is vying for. His mother also informs him that she will be gone for a week because of her injured aunt and that his brother, Mike, will be coming home to watch over him. With his brother coming from military school and being estranged from him, Jay is worried about his return.
After arriving in school on that day, Jay meets with his friends, Tracy and Bill. He shows them a caricature of headmaster Ward Van Dusen drawn in cards where his presentation for the scholarship is also written. By chance, Van Dusen sees the sketch and confiscates the cards, which he leaves in his office. Ronny, the headmaster’s son and Jay’s rival for the scholarship, finds the presentation while he is alone in the office. He decides to copy the presentation word for word and gets rewarded with the scholarship, which leaves Jay shocked and annoyed. When he brought it up with Ward, he says he will look into it. However, he overhears the father and son talking with Ward asking his son to get rid of the evidence.
Jay decides to break into the Van Dusen pool house and retrieve the cards as proof of Ronny’s cheating. While he was there, Eliza Van Dusen’s prized show dog, named Camille, sees Jay and barks at him. When the housekeeper finds Jay, he puts on a mask to hide his identity and runs off. Unbeknownst to him, Camille follows him to his house. Without her medication, Camille goes crazy and wrecks the Martin household.
When Mike comes home, he discovers the house in a mess and the dog having a meltdown. Jay decides to come clean about what took place and Mike agrees to formulate a plan to help his brother return the dog. Meanwhile, Ward panics when his father-in-law, Armand Columbus, comes to visit and demands that he brings Eliza’s dog back home. With Columbus pressuring him, Armand goes to several lengths to try and get Camille back, even getting the police involved.
Jay and Mike then come up with a plan and successfully frames Ronny for the dog theft and whole fiasco, after leaving Camille in the pool house where Ronny stays. At the end of the film, Armand replaces Ward as the school’s headmaster and Jay receives the scholarship. Camille also gives birth, with Jay receiving one of the puppies. Ronny was also sent to military academy, where his superior is revealed to be Mike.
Hounded Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Being a dog owner means that you agree to take on a number of responsibilities related to your dog’s welfare. This involves providing for all their needs, physical or otherwise. The first thing that you need to do as a furparent is to come up with a name that will truly embody your pooch’s qualities. Typically, the naming process involves different factors that must be taken into account.
One of the first considerations when naming your dog is the length. As much as possible, try to avoid names that have more than three syllables; such names will be more difficult for your dog to recall. Instead, go for names that have one to two syllables and those that sound clear when pronounced because those are the names that are easier to recognize and memorize.
One way to choose a name is to look consider different pop culture references. Films are a constant source of name ideas that will work well for pets. You can even draw inspiration from canine-centric films and the dog characters involved. For instance, fans of the DCOM Hounded can name their pooch after the lovable but neurotic Pomeranian named Camille. You can also choose to name your dog after the wide array of characters, actors and actresses featured in the movie.
