Honolulu Dog Names

Singer and songwriter Bruno Mars was born in Honolulu. Known for his talents in musical genres such as funk, R&B, pop, and more, Bruno's birth name is Peter Gene Hernandez. Bruno is also the name of several dogs who have gotten media attention. For example, a dog named Bruno was the town dog of Longville, Minnesota, for 12 plus years. The canine, a large, brown pooch, would walk four miles almost every day in order to visit the town and say hello to everyone. He first arrived at the home of Larry and Debbie Lavallee as a stray puppy. Larry and Debbie took him in, though it was quickly apparent that Bruno was a wanderer. He did not want to be leashed or confined to his home.

Bruno found that State Highway 84 leads to town and he took advantage of this opportunity, making new friends, visiting old ones and enjoying the treats from those he would see. Bruno’s rounds would include the library, ice cream shop, city hall, and several offices. His visits were enjoyed by many and he became such an integral part of Longville that the town named him the town dog and ambassador. There is even a monument in his honor.

Another dog named Bruno was working at the Lake County Sheriff’s Department in Indiana. A four-year-old American Bulldog, the pup earned the moniker “Sheriff Bruno” and worked with his handler, Joe Hamer, an internal affairs investigator. Hamer and Bruno ultimately left the sheriff’s department to begin a new work adventure together with the National Concerns of Police Survivors Office in Camdenton, Missouri, where they will work together to comfort and support family members of officers that were killed in the line of duty.

Bruno became a member of the sheriff’s department after then-Sheriff John Buncich adopted the pup in 2015 from the local animal shelter. According to Hamer, Bruno began to follow him everywhere. Hamer became Bruno’s handler and he and the dog now live and work together.

Another canine named Bruno gained media attention after being trapped at the bottom of a well for nearly a month. Bruno, a Labrador Retriever, was only found by his owners when one of their other dogs refused to move from a particular spot near a farm field. It turned out that Bruno was deep in an old well, with his paws stuck in the mud. Upon realizing where their pup was, Bruno’s owner’s son jumped in and passed Bruno up. The dog had lost half of his body weight and had other injuries from the ordeal. Bruno apparently was able to survive on snow and rainwater.
