Introduction
Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, released by Walt Disney Pictures in 1992, is a sequel to Disney’s Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, released three years earlier. In the sequel, Wayne Szalinsky and his family have moved from California to Nevada, where Wayne invents new technology for Sterling Labs. When Wayne’s wife leaves to take their eldest daughter to college, Wayne accidentally exposes their toddler to a growth ray, causing him to grow to an unbelievable size. The situation quickly spirals out of control and a gigantic Adam, attracted by the lights of the big city, causes a great deal of havoc in the nearby city of Las Vegas.
Honey, I Blew Up the Kid Dog Names in Pop Culture
Quark is the Szalinsky’s dog, a wire-haired Jack Russell terrier who appears in both films and plays a significant role in the television series. Quark plays a relatively small role in Honey, I Blew up the Kid; he brings the mail into the house and adds humor to the show with several reaction shots. His role in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, both the movie and the television show, was much more significant. When Amy and Nick are shrunk to the size of insects in the first movie, and stranded in the back yard, along with their next-door neighbors, the Thompsons, Quark attempts to come to their rescue but is initially scared off by the neighbors’ cat, Spike. Eventually, after a full night stranded in the tall grass, the children are able to get the dog’s attention, and he overcomes his fear of the cat, giving them the opportunity to ride Quark back into the house by hanging on to his fur. Once inside, Nick falls into his father’s bowl of Cheerios and is nearly eaten by Wayne, but once again it is Quark who comes to the rescue, biting Wayne on the leg to stop him from taking the bite. At the end of the movie, Quark is shown happily eating a humongous dog biscuit which was created by reversing the effects of the shrink ray.
The dog also features heavily in several of the episodes of the television series, particularly in the first season of the show. During season one, in the sixth episode, Wayne’s coworker uses Wayne’s own invention to switch his brain with that of his canine companion in order to access his vault at work. In the tenth episode, the dog temporarily gains the ability to hypnotize people, and in the twentieth episode, he is infected by protozoa designed to eat garbage, turning him into a contagious garbage eating zombie. In the first episode of season two, he eats mutating vegetables that turn him into a Godzilla-like mutant himself.
Disney also featured the Szalinsky’s family dog at several Disney Parks in a 4D show experience. When the audience sits down to watch the Inventor of the Year Award Ceremony, several things go awry, the audience is “shrunk” to the size of mice, and when Nick’s pet snake attempts to swallow the audience, Quark chases the reptile away with just a few barks.
Honey, I Blew Up the Kid Dog Name Considerations
While many people choose names based on the main characters in the movie, like Wayne, Nick, Diane, or Adam, the names of side characters can also be considered. A sensible dog with a strong work ethic might be dubbed Marshall while a smart, communicative dog might be called Constance. There are names in the list that can describe your dog's appearance as well; names like Honey, for a golden colored dog, or Rock for one that is particularly muscular, and places in the movie, as well as significant objects, can also make good names for dogs, names like Nevada, Fremont, Vic, or Vickie.
