Introduction
Honduras Dog Names in Pop Culture
As the legend goes, there's variations. Based on the Honduran version however, there's three forms of cadejo: black, white, and grey. In places like El Salvador, you don't hear about the grey one. It is believed that they take on the form of a dog, but have glowing eyes. And they can be small (El Salvador) or large (Nicaragua), almost the size of a shaggy dog.
Whatever the case, think of them as mystical spirits, not actual animals. They simply take on an animal-like appearance, specifically a dog. The white one has long been regarded as the guardian, and he likes to follow people home when they're walking around alone at night, especially down lonely roads and paths. It's speculated that when he follows you, you're safe from other evil spirits and humans alike. So no mugging!
Meanwhile, the grey one is believed to be the guardian of children. Some goes as far as to say that only children can see him, and he will often help guide a child out of dangerous situations, or away from what could potentially be a bad person. And finally, the black one is supposed to be the evil one. Unlike the other cadejos, this one doesn't have white glowing eyes, but red. He enjoys luring people into making bad choices, and will often taunt the poor soul whom he's haunting. More than that, he will follow the victim home and linger night after night.
But there are rules to follow. For one, it is never a good idea to hit or try to kill off a cadejo, because they're spirits. They can't be killed, but they can influence people negatively, even fatally. Another rule is to never speak to a cadejo, be it good or bad. This is because cadejos are a bit like a tether between the physical world we see and the spirit realm. Humans aren't meant to speak to spirits, and doing so will result in insanity. Finally, always keep an eye on the cadejo if it appears to you. The name itself is derived from "chain," so the victim must acknowledge the chained beast and never turn his or her back on it. Doing so will make them angry.
Honduras Dog Name Considerations
If you're not familiar with the dog just yet, because you either haven't adopted one yet, or you're unsure of the type of dog that you want, then consider other sources of inspiration that you do have right now.
For instance, the person that's going to be hanging out with the dog the most is probably you, right? What do you like? Whenever you get home from work, what are the things that you look forward to doing? Make a list of the movies, games, books and music that you feel best reflect you, and use them as sources of inspiration. Any iconic characters, locations, or even chapter titles can lead to some unique ideas.
Finally, consider locations around the world, in this case Honduras. You may be from there, or your parents may have been born there, making you Honduran American. Read up on the country, you never know what you might find!
