Homeland Inspired Dog Names

Since it premiered in 2011, Homeland instantly became a favorite show in America and has solidified Claire Danes’ status as the queen of primetime drama. In the series, Danes plays the role of Carrie Mathison, a CIA officer who has bipolar disorder. While she is good at what she does, Carrie sometimes rejects authority and makes some questionable choices to get what she needs. Damian Lewis also stars as Nicholas Brody, an ex-Marine who was captured in Iraq by al-Qaeda as a prisoner of war. Mathison suspects that Brody was “turned” into a sleeper agent who will cause chaos in the country. The storyline of the series begins from this premise and evolves into the different covert work that Mathison engages in.

Because of the success of Homeland, Carrie Mathison has become one of the most iconic female television characters of this generation. Coincidentally, there are a number of pop culture dogs who share the same name as this TV heroine. The best example is Carrie, the dancing dog who has become an internet sensation. Carrie is a Golden Retriever who is owned by Jose Fuentes, a photographer who hails from Chile.

When Carrie was just a puppy, she was adopted by Jose. He recalls that, even at such a young age, Carrie already had a knack for walking on her two hind legs. When she turned two years old, Carrie was already proficient at standing on two legs while waving her arms, which makes it seem like she is “dancing”. Because of her gift of dancing, Jose decided to train her even further and improve her skills. The duo started performing in front of family and friends as a means of entertainment.

While it started out as a gimmick in front of loved ones, the news about a dancing Golden Retriever started to make rounds worldwide. Videos of Jose and Carrie dancing started to go viral and instantly turned the dancing pooch into a global superstar. The duo was even asked to guest and perform at a Spanish talk show. Some months after, Carrie became the talk of the internet once more when videos of her dancing to the merengue surfaced.

Jose and Carrie decided to try their luck and took their show on the road. They were featured in The Late Show with David Letterman and were in talks with Animal Planet to shoot a documentary featuring their relationship as owner-pet and dance partners. In 2016, they also auditioned for the eleventh season of America’s Got Talent and got through to the next round. However, their performance was not strong enough for them to make it through the Judges’ Cuts and they were eliminated.
