Hellsing Inspired Dog Names

Luke the Dog was an adorable Staffordshire Bull Terrier who graced the silver screens back in the 20th century, in the 1910s. The little movie star was one of the most notable characters in the silent comedy short films, and even though he was never as famous as Rin Tin Tin, for example, he was still one of the most notable doggos of the time. He was incredibly talented in his stunt work since he was super able to do the craziest things, which other, more famous dogs had difficulty with. Luke’s owners were actress Minta Durfee and her husband Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, a director and a comedian. 

Luke’s six-year career was fruitful and he gained a lot of popularity, partly because of his immense talent, and partly because of his famous owners. He starred among some of the superstars of the silent era of cinema, including Molly Malone, Joe Roberts, Buster Keaton, Mabel Normand, and Edgar Kennedy.

An interesting thing about Luke’s adoption was heard through the grapevines at the time. Allegedly, Minta got Luke from the famous director Wilfred Lucas as emotional compensation for a dangerous stunt that she performed in one of his movies. However, Roscoe Arbuckle was the one who trained Luke and taught him how to do tricks and stunts. His first role came in the film called Lover’s Luck where he was just in the background, then he appeared in Mabel and Fatty’s Wash Day, in a short cameo, before being launched into superstardom in Fatty’s Faithful Fido, where he showed his abilities and athletic prowess. The stunts in that movie were super hard, and he even jumped on a rooftop in an attempt to catch Fatty’s rival. He made it, and found the antagonist! 

In Fatty’s Lucky Pup, Luke had appeared in almost every scene. In the first part of the movie, Luke successfully evades two dog catchers, and it in the second part, he is the hero who managed to save Fatty’s movie girlfriend, Lizzie from some criminals who kidnapped her. In Fatty and Mabel Adrift, Luke did some pretty impressive stunts. He was chasing bad guys, diving into the ocean, saving Mabel and Fatty from sinking, and many more.

He was also quite a rich doggo, earning over $150 per week, which translated to today’s money adds up to over $3100 a week! Ah, the lives of the rich and famous.
