Introduction
Hancock is a 2008 comedy superhero film that features Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron in the lead roles. The film, which was directed by Peter Berg, focuses on a vigilante superhero from Los Angeles called John Hancock. He has a polarizing image because of his alcoholism and reckless behavior, which often happens when he tries to “catch criminals” at the expense of the city. After Hancock saves the life of a PR consultant named Ray (Bateman), the latter makes it his personal mission to help Hancock change his public image and improve his status. When Hancock premiered on July 2, 2008, it became a hit and grossed a total of $624 million worldwide.
Hancock Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Hancock is not your average superhero film; in the movie, the lead protagonist John Hancock is actually not beloved by the people of his city. He starts off as an apathetic individual who wants to do good deeds but goes about it in the wrong way. He also shows a lack of empathy for others, which is why his public image is not that nice. However, when he meets and saves Ray, a public relations consultant, Hancock eventually starts to make small changes that improve the public’s perception of him. It was also after meeting Ray that he uncovers the truth about himself: Ray’s wife, Mary, was his ex-wife and a “superhuman” just like him.
The role of Mary Embrey was portrayed by Hollywood A-list actress Charlize Theron. In a surprise twist in the plot of the film Hancock, it was revealed that Mary was no ordinary woman and is actually a powerful hero and Hancock’s former wife. Because the two lose their powers when they are together, Mary took the initiative to leave Hancock so that he can continue saving others.
Charlize Theron is one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood. The South African/American actress is a recipient of numerous accolades, including the Silver Bear for Best Actress, a Golden Globe and Academy Award. Other than Hancock, she has starred in other successful films such as Monster, North Country, Snow White and the Huntsman, Prometheus and Mad Max: Fury Road. Other than her impressive acting, Theron is also known as one of Hollywood’s biggest dog lovers.
Theron shares that she has been a lover of animals all her life because of her upbringing; when she was young, her family lived on a farm just outside of Johannesburg, the capital city of her native country. Her mother Gerda is a huge animal lover and taught her to love and respect all forms of animal life, whether big or small. Residing in South Africa also meant that Theron had the chance to foster more exotic animals; throughout her life, her family has rescued all kinds of animals including ostriches and fish.
Although she respects all creatures, she admits to having a slight favoritism towards dogs. She has four adopted dogs: two Cocker Spaniels named Delilah and Denver, a Great Dane-Dalmatian mix named Orson and a mixed breed named Tucker. While all of her dogs are special and lovely in their own right, the one that is most recognizable to fans of Theron is Tucker. This is because he posed with his dog mom on one of PETA’s campaigns in 2004.
Hancock Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Whether you are a first-time dog parent or you’ve been at it for a while, one of the first things that you will have to do is to find the perfect name for your new pooch. Even though you may think it is easy to think of a name, you have to remember that there are so many options to choose from. Also, you will have to find a name that not only sounds nice but one that your dog positively responds to.
If you do not know where to start, one tip for choosing a name is to take ideas from the famous. There are plenty of well-known dogs, in fiction and in real life, whose names you may use for your own furbaby. Dog actors or canine characters in film, television and other forms of media are a dime a dozen, all of which can help you come up with a name. For example, Hancock star Charlize Theron owns a number of rescued dogs (e.g. Tucker, Orson) who have become famous in their own right because of their well-known fur mommy. If you are a fan of Theron, you can also name your pooch after hers.
You can also use a pop culture reference as a name of your dog. Your personal favorites and preferences are a good place to start. It could be anything from your favorite movie, show, music and the like. For instance, fans of the film Hancock can name their dog after the film’s characters, actors or even the crew members.Male Hancock Inspired Dog Names
