Introduction
The Hamilton Hound is a multi-purpose hound that is wonderful with children and for the most part easy going. They do have a high prey drive and use both sight and scent to track, making them a unique scent hound. They can be stubborn, making training a lesson in patience for their owners. Expect to spend a good amount of time each day with your Hamilton Hound. If you do not have enough time to spend with your Hamilton Hound, behavior issues can develop. Also known as the Hamiltonstovare, this versatile hound is a rare breed within the United States and it may be difficult to find a puppy to bring home to your family.
Hamilton Hound Dog Names in Pop Culture
The Hamilton Hound is a rare breed that most people do not hear much about. Like many of the hound breeds, they are similar in appearance and size to many of their cousins making it difficult for people to differentiate between the various hounds. The Hamilton Hound is not seen in pop culture often except in maybe in performance events such as hunting, tracking, or conformation. One such Hamilton Hound known as Louis, or Netherlands Champion Flixtonia Can’t Stop Me Now, made headlines when he was the top Hamilton Hound puppy in 2014, the top rare breed puppy in 2014, and earned Best Dog at the Crufts dog show in the UK in 2015 at only 18 months of age. Louis earned Best of Breed at the Birmingham National Championship Show in October of 2015. He became a champion in the Netherlands when he won Best of Breed at the Holland Cup Dog Show in Amsterdam. He also won Best of Breed at the Winner’s Show in Amsterdam and earned points toward his championship in back to back shows in Maastricht where he earned two CACIB titles.
Louis came from Flixtonia Hamiltonstovare in the United Kingdom. Flixtonia Hamiltonstovare is owned by Angela and Martin Leigh and was named the number one breeder of Hamilton Hounds in the United Kingdom for 2018. Martin has been a breeder and dog show judge for over 35 years, starting with Doberman Pinschers in the 1970s. Angela and Martin fell in love with the Hamilton Hound in the 1980s and Martin imported his first female into the UK from Sweden in 1987. Angela also works as a dog show judge at the Championship show level. In 2006, Martin had the honor of judging at the Crufts Dog Show. Aside from judging, breeding, and showing, Martin works as a dog show photographer at Open and Championship dog shows; he has also been the main ring photographer at the Crufts Dog Show.
They have bred Dutch, Irish, French, Polish, and World Champions making them one of the most successful show kennels of Hamilton Hounds. As of 2010, Flixtonia had bred the top winning Hamilton Hound female in Europe named World Champion Flixtonia Lady June. Flixtonia breeds true to the original Hamilton Hound breed standard that was set by the Swedish Kennel Club and they firmly believe in breeding quality dogs that are healthy and able to fully adjust to their new homes. After a prolonged illness, Martin and Angela decided to put the Fixtonia kennel name solely in Angela’s name. However, when he is able, Martin is still a very active partner in the kennel.Hamilton Hound Dog Name Considerations
