Introduction
Guatemalan Bull Terrier Dog Names in Pop Culture
Although Clifford the Big Red Dog is not a Guatemalan Bull Terrier, his name would be perfect for one because they are big and friendly like Clifford. Of course, the Guatemalan Bull Terrier will not get nearly as large as Clifford, but the name is cute anyway, especially if your fur buddy is red too. But, how did Clifford get to be so huge?
When Emily Elizabeth Howard got the fire-engine-colored pup, he was the size of a normal puppy. In fact, he was actually the runt of the litter, and that is why Emily chose him. Although it is not clear what breed of dog Clifford is, he has the characteristics of a Vizsla and a Bloodhound mixed with some Labrador Retriever.
Clifford the Big Red Dog started in 1963 as a children’s book written by Norman Bridwell. He wrote the books after a dog he had when he was younger, although his dog did not get that big. Clifford’s name came from Norman’s wife, who had an imaginary friend named Clifford when she was a child. And Emily Elizabeth was named after Norman’s daughter.
The story is about a two-year-old red dog who is a giant furiendly pup about 25 feet tall. It is narrated by Emily Elizabeth who talks about Clifford’s adventures with his friends Cleo the purple Poodle, T-Bone the chubby yellow Bull Terrier (cousin to our Guatemalan Bull Terrier), a happy blue Greyhound named Mac, and a three-legged Beagle named K.C., which usually include plenty of fun antics.
In the television series, the story is told by Clifford himself, who tells about his perspective on life with his furry friends and Emily Elizabeth. In each half-hour episode, there are two 15-minute stories. One of them is about Clifford and his canine buddies while the other would focus on his fun with Emily Elizabeth and her human friends. During the first part, Clifford is able to talk, while in the second, he is just a regular (but large) dog.
The television series takes place on the fictional island of Birdwell Island, where Emily and her family had to move when Clifford got too big for their small apartment. The name of the island was chosen as a different way to spell Bridwell’s last name. Clifford is the only abnormally large animal on the series and in the book, but his furry friends are all abnormal colors, purple, yellow, and blue. But they are all friendly, lovable, and fun to watch and learn from.
Guatemalan Bull Terrier Dog Name Considerations
When Hector Montenegro wanted a dog that would be a loving and loyal companion pet as well as a watchdog and protector, he decided to try a combination of the Bull Terrier, Dalmatian, and the Boxer. What he came up with was the Guatemalan Bull Terrier, and he perfected the breed until it was accepted into the Kennel Club of Guatemala. Soon after, the government of Guatemala named it the national dog breed. While these pooches are suspicious of strangers and can become aggressive with other dogs, these forever friends make wonderful pets as well.
Finding a name for your new Guatemalan Bull Terrier should be done carefully and with a lot of consideration. After all, your poochie needs a moniker as unique and special as they are. Since they are the national dog of Guatemala, choosing a Guatemalan title would be nice. For example, Fernando means adventurer in Guatemalan, Benito is Guatemalan for blessed, and Aidan means little fire in Guatemalan and would be perfect for an orange dog. Similarly, Brick or Clifford would be fun for a red dog, Midnight for a black fur buddy, and Bruno is the Guatemalan word for brown so it would be just the fit for a brown pupster.
