Introduction

For old-school gamers and lovers of great storytelling alike, few games reached the status of Grim Fandango when it was first released in 1998 (let alone those who discovered it via the 2015 remaster). At the time, its concepts, artistry, and execution were groundbreaking, its dialogue humorous and clever, and its characters unique and interesting to say the least. Even more remarkable was its blend of classic film noir with the Aztec beliefs of the afterlife, a combination that made it feel ultimately classic, yet wholly incomparable to others of its kind, unpredictable, and truly adventurous (characteristics many dog-owners have come to know). Because of it, even though it was technically a commercial flop, it now has a significant cult following and deservedly so. But even better for your (and our) purposes, it came with a grand selection of idiosyncratic characters with them, a plethora of fantastic names after which to name your dog.

Grim Fandango Dog Name Considerations

Outside of possessing some truly original names, Grim Fandango was replete with unique characters that made the game what it was and in turn, left the door wide open for dog-naming possibilities on a wide basis of characteristics from physical attributes to personality. So when you’re looking to find the most suitable name, start by making a mental list of your dog’s strongest qualities, as they will be the easiest to match up with characters from the game.

For instance, if you have a big dog that is a bit goofy or dopey, Glottis would be a fantastic fit. If they tend to love to roll things around, then maybe Aitor would be suitable. If you have a pair of cute and seemingly angelic dogs, then Bibi and Pugsy would be a great name-duo. If your dog happens to be heroic or particularly charming (let alone well-dressed like a Boston Terrier tuxedo), then Manny or Calavera would be spot-on.

There’s truly no limit to which ways you can go, as most of the game’s characters had highly-tailored appearances or personalities for you to play off of. If you need any refresher, the game was remastered for newer consoles in 2015 and another play through could give you some more ideas. If nothing else, there are plenty of online videos to remind you of the timeless characters Schafer and his team created.
