Grenada Dog Names

Peter David is a politician from Grenada. Peter is also the name of a very special dog. Born in 1941, Peter the dog was purchased by a woman named Audrey Stables for 25 shillings. Mrs. Stables expressed that the pup had two particular talents; destroying his owners home and ignoring all commands given. Peter was transferred into war service where he began serving with Archie Knight, an Air Ministry dog-handler at the Civil Defence depot in Chelsea. The pooch then became known as Rescue Dog No. 2664/9288 Peter.

Peter was active from early 1945 through the end of World War II, where he worked as a search and rescue dog in London. According to what Knight wrote in a report, he and Peter were called 20 hours after an incident, after which there had been several hours of heavy rain and three bodies were missing. Peter quickly indicated a spot that was pretty unlikely for the bodies to be, however it turned out that he was correct and a man and a woman were located. According to Knight, Peter received many calls and that even when working ten hours, the pup never refused to give his all.

Peter saved more than people; one of his rescue efforts led to his locating a grey parrot. Peter also assisted in demonstrating mountain rescue techniques to other rescue dogs and their handlers. In 1946, Peter and Knight were at the Civil Defence Stan-Down parade in Hyde Park, London when Peter was presented to the King and Queen and was given a kiss on the nose from Princess Elizabeth. Eventually, Peter returned to Mrs. Stables and eventually moved to a PDSA animal sanctuary prior to his death.

A crop that is popular in Grenada is nutmeg. Nutmeg is also the name of a special pup with a great will to live. In Alberta, the seven month old pup was hit by a car and thrown into a snowy ditch. While she was alive, it was becoming more difficult to find her as time went by because her body head had created a hole in the snow, leading to her being deep in it and making her hard to see. Nutmeg wound up spending 12 hours in the snow with a broken pelvis. Fortunately, she was found by a couple of teenagers who were on their way to a skateboard park. They called the authorities who then called Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force. The pup was also camouflaged by grass and thus hard to find. Once she was found, Nutmeg appeared pleased; she was very approachable and even wagging her tail. The pup received emergency treatment and was placed with a foster family while she recovers and becomes ready for adoption.
