Introduction
Until recently, only comic book fans knew about the wonder that is Oliver Queen. He was not as popular as the bigger superheroes like Batman or Superman, but he is just as deserving as they are. Everything changed when the Green Arrow TV series came out. Green Arrow took the world by storm and comic fans stood by proudly and watched the hero get the attention he deserved. The show has been going on for a little while now, and Oliver has become a household name. There are other names in his universe that also deserve to become household names, specifically dog names!
Green Arrow Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Although most superheroes claim to prefer working alone, they often have a hard-working team behind them. The team adopts the superhero’s name and works hard alongside the hero for the greater good. The team may start out with one or two people, but it eventually grows big enough to resemble a family. Being a superhero is tough, and most heroes have lost those who were closest to them. You know that being on the team is dangerous, but you cannot help but get attached to the members. When the hero loses a member of the team, the ripples are felt by the audience.
Green Arrow is not an exception to this occurrence. He has a wonderful team behind him, and although the TV show and the comics differ greatly, you love the members of both teams. They inspire the hero to do what they do and provide moral support. What would a hero be without the team behind them? A lot more lost, that is for sure. On the show, each team member has a special place in the hearts of the viewers. The same is true of the comics, but there is one member that animal lovers love the most.
George is a strange dog. He is half wolf, half award-winning Husky. He has an origin story that is steeped in mysticism and lore. His father was the Alpha of a man-eating wolf pack but eventually became friends with a wise old man. The two were killed off by an evil cult called the bone hunters. George is the only surviving heir to his father’s bloodline. His owners did not realize what a gem they had in him and sold him off to a dog-fighting ring. This is every dog owner’s nightmare, and something that Oliver Queen cannot stand.
He rescued George and from that moment, he earned a loyal companion. George is unlike any other dog and fights bravely alongside his beloved friend. He and Oliver still have to fight off evil Bone Hunters who would do anything for George’s life. Thankfully though, Oliver and George make a fearsome team. The Bone Hunters are unlikely to ever get the better of this crime-fighting duo. George is stronger than most dogs and has enhanced canine senses. Thanks to his father’s bloodline, it is rumoured that he has healing properties in his bones which makes him a complement to Oliver.
Green Arrow Inspired Dog Name Considerations
It is widely accepted that there are three ways in which an ordinary person can become a superhero. You can be born with powers, like some of the metahumans. You can receive those powers, maybe in an accident involving lightning, like the Flash. Or you can turn yourself into a superhero through rigorous training, like Batman and Oliver Queen. Oliver was your average trust fund brat who endeared himself to no-one. His parents were quickly becoming tired of his antics and he was on a one-way road to becoming another casualty of rich parents. He was lazy, conceited and did nothing worthwhile.
That is, until one day, his yacht sank with him and his father aboard. Unbeknownst to most people, Oliver survived the accident thanks to his father’s sacrifice. He landed up on a mysterious island and received enough training to become the Green Arrow. When he came back, he brought the Arrow with him and vowed to be a hero. What followed was a wild ride full of adventurous characters who would be happy to share their name with your dog. Since the TV show and comics are so different, we have decided to feature names from both sources.
