Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen Dog Names

It is not common to see a Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen in the news or making waves in the world of dog sports. However, Ichabod, or more formally Champion Talus Sidekick Legend of Sleepy Hollow CM, set the dog world on its ear when at just 14 months old he won Best of Breed at the 2017 AKC Royal Canin National Championship Dog Show held in Orlando, Florida. Ichabod is Talus Kennels’ first home-bred Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen and they are very proud of all he has accomplished in his short show career. His sire is Sidekicks Sail the Seven Seas and his dam is Compote Du Greffler Du Roi. Both parents came from top Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen breeders. Ichabod’s winning streak held into 2018 where he attended the 2018 Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen Club of America’s National Specialty and won Best Bred-By Exhibitor in Show; a high honor for any breeder. He was able to finish his American Kennel Club (AKC) championship at the 2018 Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen Club of America’s Regional Specialty held in Perry, Georgia. Ichabod has also earned the AKC’s Certificate of Merit (CM) award.

Another stunning Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen that has made Talus Kennels home is Brielle, or Dire Du Bien Du Greffler Du Roi. She comes from the same breeder as Ichabod’s dam. Jolanda Huisman of the Netherlands is a top breeder of Grand Basset Griffon Vendéens and has exported many into the United States. Brielle made her journey from the Netherlands to Mobile, Alabama in December of 2017 when she was just four months old. Brielle is already making a big splash in the show ring; she won a five point major at the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen Club of America’s 2018 Regional Specialty in Perry, Georgia. What made this win so extraordinary is that Brielle won over adult females while she was only competing in the 6-9 month female class. Brielle also won Best Puppy in Show during the same show weekend.

 Talus Kennels is owned by Cindy and Philip Wilt of Mobile, Alabama. They breed both the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen and the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen. Cindy became involved in obedience competitions in 1985 with her first Golden Retriever named Baloo and then after Baloo retired she competed with a yellow Labrador named Lady Gwendolyn. In 2005, Cindy and Philip competed in Agility with two miniature Dachshunds and also dabbled in other sports such as Earth Dog trials, Tracking, and Lure Coursing. It was not until 2007 that they discovered the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen and fell in love with the breed. In 2012, Sophie arrived from the Netherlands. Sophie was Cindy and Philip’s first Grand Basset Griffon Venden and is Ichabod’s dam.
