Introduction

Gotham Academy was a comic book series that ran from December 2014 to August 2017 as a part of DC Comics' "New 52" reboot. Despite being set in the infamous city of Gotham, Gotham Academy doesn't really focus on Batman or any of the other members of the Bat Family too much. Instead, the series focuses on the young and gifted students who attend a very prestigious prep school. Some of the students are related to members of Batman's Rogues Gallery (one of the main characters is revealed to be the daughter of the shapeshifting villain Clayface), but most of the characters are wholly the original. In reality, Coach Humphreys hides a dark secret from his students and his peers - he was forcefully turned into a werewolf by the villainous Achilles Milo. To make matters worse, Milo works as a professor at Gotham Academy but operates so secretly that Coach Humphreys has been unable to get the man convicted. Imagine having a mad scientist forcibly change everything that made you who you are and replace it with something monstrous, then having to break bread with the fiend because you don't have enough evidence to bring him to justice. That's been Coach Humphreys' daily routine for longer than he cares to remember.

The Coach eventually gets a break when Olive Silverlock and the other members of the Detective Club learn of his secret. Initially unable to control his bestial side, the Detective Club members are nearly torn to ribbons by their transformed athletics coach. They're able to help him gain control of his impulses and are able to get professional help from Dr. Kirk Langstrom - the man who formerly plagued Gotham as Man-Bat. Empathizing with Coach Humphreys' plight, Dr. Langstrom took the Coach under his wing and the two now work together in an effort to cure Humphreys' affliction.

Gotham Academy Inspired Dog Name Considerations

There are a couple of really great reasons to give your dog a name inspired by Gotham Academy - one of them being the series' ability to really great detective stories. If you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes, books written by Agatha Christie, and books about Noir Detectives solving mysteries, then you may find yourself a huge fan of Gotham Academy. The main characters (including the likes of Olive Silverlock, Mia and Kyle Mizoguchi, and a host of other students) comprise the Academy's Detective Club. Most issues feature Olive and the others working together to solve some of their school's - and Gotham city's - oldest and most troublesome mysteries.

The series managed to balance the gripping intrigue of detective stories with the shock and tension of teen dramas like The Outsiders or The Maze Runner books. As most of the book's main characters are adolescents, the series doubles as a coming of age tale for most of them.
