Introduction
In the Marvel Universe, there truly is a hero for every occasion; heroes like Spider-Man and Daredevil fight crime bosses, mad scientists, and foes the Police wouldn't be able to handle on their own. Dr. Strange protects our entire reality from mystical threats, and the Avengers come together to face enemies that are too great for one hero to handle alone. And then, there's Ghost Rider - or I should say the Ghost Riders, who face off against supernatural and demonic threats on a daily basis. Unbeknownst to many, there was actually another Ghost Rider before Johnny Blaze, the purported first Ghost Rider; his name was Carter Slade and he wore all white, rode a horse, and had gunfights with bad guys in the Wild West. Marvel has since named this gun-toting hero the Phantom Rider while reserving the Ghost Rider moniker for anyone who wields the Spirit of Vengeance for good.
Ghost Rider Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
The character Doghead is, without a doubt, the single most prevalent and major canine character in the entire Ghost Rider mythos but he's also one of the most evil. Doghead may not be as prolific of a villain as Mephisto or Blackheart are but the dubious circumstances surrounding his creation, combined with his incredibly malicious and dangerous personality, will likely make Doghead stand out as a truly heinous criminal in the eyes of dog loving Ghost rider fans.
Before he would be transformed into the evil entity known as Doghead, Francisco Fuentes was a man who was seemingly always struggling to make ends meet. Francisco was a hard worker whose only friend was a dog named Chupi. A troubled soul, Francisco had numerous run-ins with the law and was currently living in the United States illegally. One fateful day, Francisco's troubles would finally get the better of him when he and his dog would be unjustly framed for a crime they hadn't committed.
Not wanting to encounter the police Francisco picked up Chupi and ran into oncoming traffic, both being struck by a bus and succumbing to their injuries. In his final moments, Francisco begged to be able to take revenge on the world with Chupi by his side. Right before he expired Blackheart, the son of Mephisto, appeared and answered Francsico's prayers in one of the most twisted ways imaginable; Blackheart used his demonic powers to merge Francisco and Chupi into a half man, half dog hybrid. He then took used all of the hate flowing inside of Francisco's heart to give him superhuman abilities. The end result of Blackheart's evil machinations; Doghead.
Churchill is a particularly obscure character in the Ghost Rider world, having only made one very small appearance in the Ghost Rider comics as of this writing. Nevertheless, Churchill still stands as the most prominent dog in the series by committee; the Ghost Rider comics have existed for more than 50 years (60 if you take into account Carter Slade's tenure as the Spirit of Vengeance) and yet there haven't been a large number of canine characters in the series. It's likely not a personal matter; considering the fact that the Ghost Riders primarily face off against demonic or overall supernatural threats, there aren't too many opportunities for dogs to show up in the comics... that is to say, there aren't too many opportunities for normal, good dogs to show up, if Doghead has anything to say about it.
Ghost Rider Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Johnny Blaze, the first and most well known Ghost Rider to be bonded with the Spirit of Vengeance, naturally has blonde hair. So if you're currently caring for a breed that has a blonde or golden coat, consider naming them Johnny, John, or Jon after the MCU's current King of Hell. Conversely, fans of Ghost Rider who either are currently caring for a female dog or who are expecting to care for one shortly should consider naming their dog Alejandra after the first female Ghost Rider.
