Get a Clue Inspired Dog Names

In the 2002 film Get a Clue, the leading character is a young student named Alexandra Gold, otherwise known as Lexy by her friends and family. She is an intuitive girl with a knack for finding out the latest news, similar to her father who happens to be a journalist as well. Aside from her wits, Lexy is also known for being a friendly presence in the school.

The name “Lexy” is not just popular for characters; it is also a nice name for your four-legged pal. In fact, an adorable pooch with this name once made headlines and became an Internet superstar. Lexy the Elderbull, as she is known, is a senior Pit Bull whose photogenic looks and inspiring story made her a viral sensation.

Lexy was first rescued in 2014 by the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at the age of 8 years old. But before that, she had spent most of her life indoors and used as a breeding machine. In fact, she had given birth numerous times that you can see her underside skin stretched out. Additionally, she was underweight for a Pit Bull and her teeth showed signs of trying to chew the crate to get out. Trainers at SPCA also believe she has not stepped outside because her paws were free from any damage.

While she had a better life at the shelter for her first few months, no rescuers showed interest in adopting her. In her fifth month at SPCA, Jenny Mackay came to visit in search for a companion for her own senior dog, a Corgi-Basenji mix named Pete, who was also adopted through the shelter. Since Pete had an autoimmune condition, Mackay was hoping to find a doggy sibling that would bring joy to his life. She fell in love with Lexy right off the bat but because of the lack of compatibility between the two dogs, Mackay had to forgo the idea of adopting the Pit Bull.

A week after her visit to SPCA, however, Pete passed away. At around the same time, Lexy was moved to foster care. When Mackay found out that Lexy’s foster parent was an acquaintance, she started to visit the pooch. Eventually, on January 26, 2014, she officially adopted Lexy. Like most rescued dogs who have undergone abuse, Lexy was hesitant and doubtful in the beginning. However, she slowly started to become more comfortable around her new home. She also started to play, run around and just be a happy, silly dog. Mackay set up an Instagram account featuring Lexy in fun-looking costumes and outfits. She says that aside from the entertainment value, Lexy’s story is also a campaign for rescue dogs and, in particular, Pit Bulls who have a negative image attached to them.
