Introduction
Galaga was a video game that arcade crawlers have known since 1981. It has been referenced in countless television shows and movies since then. It is so popular that the Chitauri spaceship in Marvel: The Avengers is shaped like the spaceships from the game. The shout out from Tony Stark is, in retrospect, foreshadowing as the aliens come into the city in much the same way as those from the game Galaga. So when you are using a Galaga inspired name, you should choose a strong name that is out of this world.
Galaga Names in Pop Culture
The bad guy aliens in Galaga were called bugs so how suiting is a bug sniffing dog named Riley? That's right, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston has decided to cast away the societal norms of cats chasing bugs. They made the choice to get a puppy and train him to hunt bugs down before they can become a problem. Bugs are not a small deal in a museum. Moths, silverfish, beetles, and booklice that can destroy books, and checking bed bugs out in your library books is a thing now.
Riley will not be in charge of actually killing the bugs. That would be silly. With a long snout and floppy ears, he should be able to smell the bugs out and will be trained like a very quiet drug dog. He will sniff them out and sit quietly in library mode and wait for the humans to sort it out. Riley is a Weimaraner and they are great working dogs because they have the ability to work for long periods of time. With a short tail, he is perfect for such a job because a bull in a china shop has nothing on a dog with a big tail when they get excited. Riley is officially the cutest museum caretaker ever.
Meet Bug, the sad Chihuahua. He has over thirty-eight thousand followers on Instagram and a possible weight problem, but that's totally bone structure. He also has the saddest face you could ever see on such a cutie. Unless you catch him sleeping. Some of his cutest shots are of his mom trying to get him to smile. Of course, the rest are him being him awake and asleep. His hobbies actually include sleeping, and looking like he wants to be asleep. He's got range, this pup.
He is also a huge advocate for homeless and abused dogs as he has a similar history. His agents will not give further comment. All they know is that before he adopted his current family he had “a rough go of things”. Now he’s back on top and helping others from his website. He is just awaiting transport back to his native planet of Bugturdia. A philanthropic alien dog. There has to be a book there. Psst. When he does smile it’s adorable and derpy and awesome!
Galaga Dog Name Considerations
When choosing Galaga themed names you have to consider what Galaga is: an old-school video game about bugs in space. So you will look to science, science fiction, and video game characters and settings. This can be fun and rewarding and a huge throwback to your childhood. Classic arcade games like Street Fighter had an amazing and colorful cast of characters and Mario is a first generation game from Nintendo. Pulling inspiration from a lot of sources can be a fun time. You can reminisce about the time that Pluto was a planet or joke about how easy it used to be to get infinite lives on console games. The sky's the limit.
While they are not explored here, there are bug related movies turned to video games that you would not have to shield your children from. Sit them down with A Bug's Life or Bee Movie and let them choose their own bug name, or see how they would fare against the ghosts of Ms. Pacman. Choosing the dog's name should be a family affair. Get everyone involved and when in doubt, put a bunch in a hat and pull one out.
