Introduction
Fourth World Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Sirius and Orion were so close in life that they decided to stick together after death. You know about the stellar constellation Orion's Belt? Well, it's a part of an even greater constellation that's simply known as Orion. Orion and Orion's Belt represent a mythical Greek Hunter who was said to be the son of the Sea God Poseidon. We'll talk more about that in a bit, but we'd like for you to perform a short exercise if you live in the Northern Hemisphere; wait until the sky gets dark and look up for a bright star that outshines all of the others - it should be located in the Southeast portion of the sky. That bright bluish star is Sirius, Orion's pet. If you'll notice, Sirius and Orion are incredibly close to one another. That actually ties into the myth that details how those two ended up in the sky to begin with.
According to legend, Sirius and Orion both meet their ends at the hand of a horrific scorpion. Long ago, Orion and Sirius once hunted with the Greek goddess Artemis and her Mother Leto. The party were poaching machines, slaying so many animals that they nearly wiped a multitude of species from the face of the Earth. Gaia, the Greek embodiment of Mother Earth herself, had to step in and stop them. To that end, Gaia sent a giant scorpion forth to disrupt the party's wanton hunting. Artemis and Leto immediately recognized what the scorpion represented and called the hunt to an end. Orion, however, deemed the creature prey and tried to take it down. The scorpion bested the hunter and poisoned him with his stinger. Sirius tried to avenge his master but was also struck down. To prevent them from utterly perishing, Artemis asked Poseidon to immortalize Orion and Sirius as constellations.
Poseidon did that and more; he turned Orion and Sirius into constellations out of love for his son and his dog. He then turned the scorpion into the constellation Scorpio to serve as a reminder of what happens when ambition and hubris run wild.
Fourth World Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Another reason that you might like to name your new addition after Fourth World would be if you're a big fan of Sci-Fi shows, movies, books, games and, of course, other comics. Fourth World primarily takes place on the planets New Genesis and Apokolips, a utopia and a hellish world respectively. The citizens of both planets have access to pieces of technology that would absolutely revolutionize our own world; they have thrones that double as supercomputers, vehicles that can move faster than the speed of light, and apparatuses that allow one to retain their youth and wisdom for untold amounts of time. Fourth World doesn't just present these technological marvels, it questions their impact on society and civilization.
