Introduction

It's probably safe to assume that you've heard of the likes of Cinderella, Little Boy Blue, The Three Little Pigs, or the Big Bad Wolf, but have you ever wondered what has happened to those characters after all these years? As the central figures from some of the most well known Fairy Tales and Fables in contemporary society, most of us have heard their stories when we were little kids. And they almost always end with the implication that those characters go on to live "Happily Ever After." Well Bill Willingham's Contemporary Fantasy series Fables endeavors to figure out just how these mythical characters can live "Happily Ever After" in our modern world.

Fables Inspired Dog Name Considerations

Many of the more bestial inhabitants of Fabletown share a number of similarities with contemporary dog breeds, meaning that you'll likely be able to find a character who heavily resembles your pet, if they aren't outright an animal themselves. Beast from the famous tale, the Beauty and the Beast, has a rich, thick, cognac brown coat of fur that curls around his body in fine clumps. His coat resembles that of a Poodle's or a Wire Hair Schnauzer's, so if you own one of those dogs, consider naming them Beast in his honor. Beast is also a very chivalrous and respectable character, so if your dog's personality traits fit that bill, you could always name them Beast due to a likeness of mind rather than a likeness of body.

The character of the series (at least during the earlier stories) is Bigby Wolf, who's actually the Big Bad Wolf in human form. As you might expect, his physical traits in his wolf form make him resemble Wolves, Wolfdogs, Siberian Huskies, Tamaskan Dogs, and Sheep Dogs more heavily than most other breeds, so if you're currently caring for one of those dogs, you might be in luck. Bigby is also known for his pragmatic, level headed, no nonsense personality, so if you've got a dog with a keen head on its shoulders, Bigby could be a good name for them.
