Evan Almighty Inspired Dog Names

While this film did endure its share of controversy, it was meant to stress the importance of both the care and conservation of animals and acts of random kindness (ARK), concepts that are important not only to the Evan in the film, but also to a Pit Bull type dog named Evan in St Paul, MN. Evan was rescued from deplorable conditions along with hundreds of other dogs who had been imprisoned as part of the second largest multi-state dog fighting busts in the United States. The chained dogs had been found suffering from dehydration, internal parasites, and physical injuries; in varying states of distress, and surrounded by the bodies of dogs deemed no longer useful. They were known collectively as the 367, as that was the number of dogs that were taken on August 23^rd, 2013 in raids that spanned the states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas., but the final tally of dogs that were rescued was 486 dogs, including some that were born shortly after the raids themselves. 

Evan was among the dogs rescued that day, and like many of the others, he suffered from a number of ailments including broken and infected teeth, skin allergies, and a was highly agitated by the sight of other dogs; he cowered at the back of his kennel, terrified and unsure how to react in his new surroundings. He was fostered by Mandy and Kevin Malecek, who treated him to Popeye’s Fried Chicken on the way home, and when the Maleceks were in the process of moving, Charlie and Heather Stephenson took over his care. His teeth were removed, and his skin conditions were managed with a combination of medications, a diet, and regular bathing and he began to recover, both physically and emotionally. The Stephensons had two other dogs Emmett and Penelope, and they were initially kept separately, but after several group walks he was able to more confidently interact with them, and Emmett helped to show him proper manners around other dogs. He blossomed into a happy, silly dog, whose tail is always wagging. When the Maleceks finished their move, Evan returned to their home although he frequently returns to the Stephensons to stay for visits as the two families share fostering privileges until the dog, who is now around thirteen years old, finds a new forever home. In the meantime, he is having a grand old time traveling from home to home and helping both the Maleceks and the Stephensons welcome several new foster animals.
