Introduction

The Doom Patrol is considered by many fans to be DC Comic's answer to Marvel's Fantastic Four; both superhero groups were created in the 60's, both groups contained at least one member who could stretch their body and another whose body was completely comprised of a hard, inorganic substance, and the arch enemies of both groups were scientific geniuses who were also masters of robotics and cybernetics! Without a doubt, the Doom Patrol, and the stories about them, had a lot in common with Marvel's First Family back in the day, but over the years the Doom Patrol have gained their own identity with one of their members even going on to join another, more well known DC Comics superhero team; the Doom Patrol comics have experienced both periods of success and failure, with cancellations and revivals abound throughout the entirety of the team's existence, but they've persevered through the best of times and worst of times, and you have to respect these guys for that.

Doom Patrol Inspired Dog Name Considerations

If we had to describe the Doom Patrol in one word, it'd be uncanny; the original team consisted of a guy stuck in a robotic body, another guy who was wrapped up in bandages, a green kid, and a lady who could stretch like a piece of taffy. To top it all off, the team was led by an old guy in a wheelchair who acted as a surrogate father to the others. If you're thinking that there are a lot of parallels between the Doom Patrol and the X-Men, then we'd like to tell you that you're not too far from wrong. But just as the X-Men served as an analogous group who represented persecuted minorities, so too does the Doom Patrol serve as an analog for social outcasts and misfits.

So, why give your dog a Doom Patrol inspired name? Before you answer that question, we'd like to ask another; have you ever felt that you don't have a place in society - that you fit in with the rest of the world like a square peg in a circular hole? Then maybe consider naming your dog after a character from the Doom Patrol in order to pay homage to a team that sought to project the message that misfits not only have a place in society after all, but that they can also change it in a number of major ways.
