Introduction
Donkey Kong, the American CGI animated movie, was based on the SNES video game, Donkey Kong Country. The movie, similar to the game, follows Donkey Kong as he does everything that he can to get the island and the Banana Hoard back from the evil King K. Rool. Fans of the games and T.V. series rejoiced with this movie that added more action to the otherwise comedy based animation. Being one of the more recent animated films, Donkey Kong was able to connect to a younger audience rather than the older one that would have grown up with the Donkey Kong games.
Donkey Kong Dog Names in Pop Culture
Starting off the Pop Culture Spotlight is Winky, the first one-eyed Chihuahua that Selma Blair had in Hollywood. Selma Blair has had a few other one-eyed Chihuahua’s after the passing of Winky. Another Winky in the spotlight comes from the Best Friends NKLA Shelter. This namesake, Winky Smalls, came to his owners on a grain-free food diet that included duck and sweet potatoes. Winky Smalls, from Los Angeles Animal Services Board, sadly had a recurring ear infection, that miraculously disappeared after the meat-based foods were phased from his diet.
Rambi is part of the six dog squad at the Central Industrial Security Force in India. The dogs in the squad are named Rambi, Ivan, Anto, Sparky, Lara, and Charlie. After their old facility was demolished, another one was built in 2015 in fine style. This new kennel is a two-storied, 6,500 square foot kennel that has separate air-conditioned rooms for each of the six dogs.
Though this name isn’t mentioned in the movie, there is a character named Chris in the namesake video game. The 1992 movie ‘Beethoven’ was considered to be one of the highest earning and most popular dog movies of its time. The dog actor who played the Saint Bernard was actually named Chris, who played the large but lovable canine. Sadly, Chris passed away soon after the completion of Beethoven 2, the sequel movie.
The last spotlight goes to Bongo, from the Bongo Dog Blog, also based in the U.S. (the exact state is not mentioned). Though the exact breed isn’t clear, the blog follows through the many adventures of Bongo with his owner. The first post for this blog was in August 2011, but Bongo has been said to be blogging for over ten years now. At around 15-year-old, Bongo has been blogging his adventures for the majority of his life. The blog describes the many adventures and discoveries available to the average dog, as long as he has an owner willing to accompany him. Bird watching, puddle splashing, swimming and going for extended car rides are just a few of the activities that canines love the best.
Donkey Kong Dog Name Considerations
With Donkey Kong, the first personality traits that come to mind are stubborn and independent. There are dog breeds that do seem more self-reliant and more headstrong than others. We have compiled a list of ten dog breeds that we’ve found have the most independent streak in their personalities.
Beagles are independent but lovingly so. If they are left alone, they will find something or someone else to amuse them. English Bulldogs are incredibly intelligent. They require respect from their owner and won’t tolerate a weak owner. Though small, Dachshunds have the attitude of a very large dog. Even with their stature, they know how to hold themselves tall.
Similar to Dachshunds, Jack Russell Terriers are also small in stature, but this mischievous breed has no problem starting up a little tussle. They are an energetic, smart, and tough breed. As a family dog, Rottweilers require firm training from experienced handlers. They are bred to be strong-willed which means that they require a strong handler to contain them.
Dogo Argentino’s are not breeds for the weak-willed. They require firm training and bucket loads of exercise to contain their stubborn personalities. Other breeds with an independent streak include the Chinese Shar-Pei, Afghan Hound, Scottish Terrier, and Weimaraner.
