Introduction
Dog Names that Start with 'We' in Pop Culture
Webster: Tale of an Outlaw is a book about a Black Labrador mix who lives in an animal shelter called the Green Meadows Rescue Group. The book is written by Ellen Emerson White, who also authored Santa Paws, which ended up becoming a Disney movie. After being adopted three times with no success, through no fault of his own, Webster the pooch has hardened himself to life and tries to pretend that he does not care if he ever gets adopted by a family. He continues to act like he is too cool and tough to like anyone, including his shelter mates who are very furiendly.
Although he is starting to like the shelter, he believes he is better off alone because he doesn't want to get hurt again by trusting and caring about anyone. In fact, Webster decides to escape from the shelter and live on his own. While still at the shelter, he kind of makes friends with many of the animals there such as Florence the bossy cat and Jack the friendly Terrier, but he pretends not to like anyone. And even though the shelter offers him a warm, comfy bed and home-baked treats, he is determined to be a loner and an outlaw and live on the streets.
In fact, Webster renames himself “Bad Hat” and models himself after a rogue cowboy that he has seen on television while watching Masterpiece Classic and Downton Abbey every night with the shelter owners and the rest of the animals there. He believes that the cowboy is real and likes how he is self-sufficient and strong on his own without having to worry about anyone else caring about him.
One day he makes his escape and starts living on the street, but he returns to the shelter every night to visit with his friends, watch television, and eat some kibble and treats. Incredibly, some of the shelter pets join Webster on his outdoor adventures once in a while, and some of these adventures turn into rescues. For instance, Webster and friends herd some lost sheep, lead six kittens to the shelter for safety, save a toddler from being hit by a car, and even save a drowning man.
The book teaches children (and adults) about the importance of adopting from shelters, treating animals well, how the pups can work together as a team, and that it is okay to trust others even if you have been hurt before. The story revolves around Webster and his friends, but it also shares glimpses into other people and furry friends’ lives and how to respect and care about others.
Dog Name that Starts with 'We' Considerations
While some new dog owners pick out the name before they even get the pup, it is probably better to wait until you get to know your fur buddy a little better first. That way you can learn about your new doggo’s quirks, habits, and personality. For example, if your dog is constantly “talking,” the name Webster (like the dictionary) would be an adorable choice. Weirdo is a furfect moniker for the silly pooch, and Welcome is great for that pooch who always greets you at the door. Wego or Went are fun names for the pup who always wants to go somewhere and Wewoof, Weepy, or Wenny are all terrific picks for the noisy furbaby.
Some people choose a moniker according to the dog’s breed or appearance. Welland or Webby are both great choices for a dog who likes water, Weapon is an awesome name for a defender dog like a Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, or German Shepherd, and Werewolf is just the fit for a Wolfhound. In addition, Weasel is great for a little brown dog while Weensy or Weevil are super for a tiny pooch. Weiss means white in German so it would be a pawesome title for a white dog and Weedy is perfect for a skinny pup. We have listed our top 60 favorites for you here to get you started.
