Dog Names that Start with Ga

There are many brave and selfless canines who are shining examples of dogs with names that start with "Ga". In 2007, a twelve-year-old boy scout, Michael Auberry, wandered away from camp in an attempt to hitchhike home, instead, he got hopelessly lost. Searchers in North Carolina scoured the Blue Ridge Parkway National Park for several days before a Shiloh Shepherd named Gandalf, a search-and-rescue dog with a sharp nose, located the boy, disoriented but unharmed. 

Gabi was a rough-coated German Shepherd who worked as part of the security team at the Belgrade Zoo and another heroic dog with a name that starts with the letters "g" and "a". In 1987, she and a male German Shepherd were patrolling with guard Stanimir Staníc when the dogs became aware that a full-grown jaguar was loose in the zoo. While the other dog ran in the other direction, Gabi headed straight for the big cat and engaged it. Her quick actions may have prevented the animal from leaving the zoo grounds and she was credited with saving Staníc. Although Gabi was severely injured, she eventually recovered and a statue was erected at the zoo in her honor. She continued her patrol and guard duties for many more years after her surgery.  

Gander was the name of the service dog that was paired with Lon Hodge in 2012, a veteran with mobility issues and crippling PTSD. Gander had originally been saved from a high kill shelter and moved to a prison training program in Canon City, CO. Gander excelled in the basic obedience training and was subsequently transferred to Freedom Service Dogs in Englewood, CO where he acquired more specialized training, teaching him how to perform over one hundred tasks, including responding to escalating stress, picking things up, and opening doors for Lon, and both dog and veteran now tour the country advocating for service dogs. Another dog by the name of Gander, this time a cross between a Newfoundland dog and a Labrador, served in the Royal Rifles of Canada during World War II. Deployed to China, the troops fought in the Battle of Hong Kong, a conflict that lasted several days. Gander successfully turned back enemy forces two times during the battle and saved the lives of many wounded soldiers, then, when a live grenade landed in the midst of a group of soldiers, Gander grabbed it from the ground and raced with it back to the Japanese, losing his life when it detonated. Gander was posthumously awarded the Dickin Medal in 2000 for displaying conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.
