Dog Names that Start with Er

Don’t you love a good book? Sometimes, there is just nothing like sitting quietly on the front porch swing or at the park or curled up on a blanket after a yummy picnic lunch with a good novel in hand. Being the hopeless romantic that this author is, as well as a pursuer of mysteries, quiet moments often find one deeply involved in the stories printed on those precious pages.  

While novels, mysteries, and historical writing have historically attracted the author's attention, of late, the author has been picking up books written about animals of all species.  A dog lover, favorite literary works about dogs are increasing by leaps and bounds (pun intended). Some writers are exceptionally gifted in the art of telling a tale about the animal escapades which carry one along on a roller coaster ride of emotions as the central character is rescued, accepted, loved and lives happily ever after in their forever home, which is so refreshing.  Such is the case with Earnest, our pop culture spotlight for today.

The name “Earnest” means serious and determined, and the name certainly fits our hero.  He is a Yellow Labrador who is extremely eager to please and who has a sweet disposition.  He is first seen by Anna and her boyfriend at Seattle’s Second Chance Shelter, and it was love at first lick.  They took him home, and they became “a pack of three” in the blink of an eye, fitting quickly into their Gamble Island condo and filling their lives with love and loyalty and laughter.  Earnest spends his daytime hours with Anna while she works in the flower shop she runs, located in an old Victorian home that was previously owned by her beloved grandmother. Anna has a dream of purchasing the house someday for herself.  When Jeff, her boyfriend smashes this dream, it is Earnest who comes to the rescue of his people. Because Anna and Jeff are so intensely devoted to Earnest and he to them, they find they can’t walk away, not even given the loss of trust experienced by Anna.  It is Earnest who will guide Anna through the crises, helping her come to terms with her past so that she can fully involve herself in the future. Yes, by the end of the story, we had a pile of Kleenexes in our lap, too.
