Introduction
Dog Names That Start With 'Ea' in Pop Culture
Eagle is a Doberman Pinscher who possesses the uncanny ability to find human bones, murder weaponry and a variety of other clues that ultimately aid archaeologists, detectives, and other law enforcement personnel get to the bottom of some very mind-boggling cases. Eagle's unique talents became known when, while training some police officers in Lapeer County, Michigan the finer points of riverbank searching, he began to bark. This barking prompted the investigators to explore specific areas more closely. They found human bone remains which appeared to have had some exposure to a chipper, a condition which they determined was a cause to suspect that murder of the previous owner of the bones was afoot. They tested the DNA of the bones, running it through some DNA databases in an attempt to find a match. After several years, DNA matches are still being sought for these remains.
Further, it seems that Eagle helped investigators locate some very incriminating, previously unavailable evidence for the murder of a wife by her husband in December 1999. The couple divorced and husband told his children that their mother had returned to England. At some point after her initial disappearance, law enforcement found the dismembered body of a woman in a dumpster, discovering her torso approximately a week later. Eagle was called in to aid in the investigation. His owner took him to the home of the couple, and he sniffed his way to the basement, where he began to bark at some carpet he found in the basement. Further investigation of the rug in question revealed traces of the wife's blood under it. The husband was arrested and later found guilty of her first-degree murder.
Eagle's talents enabled the location of missing persons in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Louisiana, and Panama. Though there is some suspicion surrounding some of his escapes, the skills possessed by Eagle and other cadaver dogs are still worthy of renown and recognition, even as we are unable to explain the why and the how of them.
