Dog Names that Start with Au

Augie Doggie is a cartoon Dachshund in the Hanna-Barbera cartoon “The Quick Draw McGraw Show” which aired from 1959 to 1962. Augie Doggie is the son of Doggie Daddy, who is based on a Jimmy Durante impersonation and they became so pawpular in the show that they both made appearances in other shows and even two video games called “Yogi’s Ark Lark” and “Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy.” 

During the show, Augie would get himself and his Doggie Daddy into all kinds of ridiculous situations such as making friends with a gorilla, babysitting an alien baby, getting a horse for his birthday, adopting a lion, taking a trip to Mars, and finding a money-counterfeiting machine. Augie is a very active and imaginative pupster who just wants to make his “dear old dad” proud of him and will go to any extremes to make that happen. 

Augie is actually an incredibly intelligent pooch who is pawesome at science and even knows how to talk to other animals. Augie’s dad tries to be very strict with Augie but usually ends up giving in to whatever his son asks for. Augie calls his dad “dear old dad,” and Doggie Daddy calls Augie “Augie, my son, my son” when he is disappointed and when he is proud, he says, “Dat’s my boy who said dat!”

The show itself, “The Quick Draw McGraw Show,” is about a Mustang horse named Quick Draw, who is a sheriff of the town where Augie Doggie and his dad live. Quick Draw and his deputy, Baba Looey, who is a Mexican burro, spend all their time trying to figure out a way to catch the bad guys but would usually end up getting into their own trouble. Augie and his dad are sometimes involved or help Quick Draw and his deputy. 

During the show, Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy would typically be shown separate from Quick Draw and Baba Looey, but occasionally they would work together on something. The show had some interesting lessons in each episode such as teaching Augie Doggie to play fair when he stops speaking to his dad after he calls him out on strikes during a baseball game and telling the truth when Augie lies about his dad being a movie star. 

Augie Doggie also appeared in several other films and specials such as "Yogi’s Gang," "Laff-A-Lympics," "Yo Yogi," "Wake, Rattle, & Roll," "Yogi’s Treasure Hunt," "A Yabba Dabba Doo Celebration," "Yogi Bear and the Magical Flight of the Spruce Goose," "The Good, the Bad, and Huckleberry Hound," "The Yogi Bear Show," and "I Am Weasel.”
