Introduction
Dogs Names that Start with Ak in Pop Culture
The fluffiest (and dare we say cutest) member of Team Kurenai goes by the name of Akamaru. As a playful pup in the show Naruto, Akamaru is the loyal best friend and constant companion of Kiba Inuzuka. His adorable smile, big floppy ears, and curled wagging tail definitely help to bring a whole new level of entertainment to the already popular show. Just like any awesome dog and owner duo, Kiba and Akamaru are inseparable. They spend all of their time together and Akamaru shows his devoted and loyal spirit in the way that during battle, he will always run to Kiba's side immediately if he notices an injury to his master. Unlike real dogs, however, (as this is a show after all) Akamaru is able to voice his opinions and thoughts; which really helps to expand on his personality. The adorable dog is seen to have a humorous thought process that tends to contradict itself often. His viewpoint on humans is very scientific and he believes that they should be independent as opposed to searching out the perfect mate. When Kiba shows an attraction towards the lovely Tamaki, Akamaru does his best to pull Kiba away so that he can stay focused on his training. As we all can imagine, that was a fruitless attempt!
As for what breed Akamaru is based on, we get a few hints through the color of his fur, the body type, and his personality. In part 1 of Naruto it is clear that Akamaru is similar to that of a Great Pyrenees puppy. His appearance is made up of white fur with darker patches on his ears, a brown nose, and a brown outline around his mouth that makes it look like he is constantly smiling. The hair on top of his head is made to look somewhat like a mohawk, which mimics his personality wonderfully. A very interesting fact is that when Akamaru is fed soldier pills, his fur turns red and he becomes more ferocious; this is why he is named Akamaru, which means "red" (Aka) with "maru" being a common ending in Japanese names.
When it comes to personality, there is no doubt that all the pieces come together to match Akamaru to a Great Pyrenees. The large white breed is known for being gentle, yet very protective of their family, intelligent, loving, fearless, and determined (along with much more). If you are someone that owns a Great Pyrenees, then the name "Akamaru" may be a great option to consider!
