Dog Names Meaning Ghost

Is there a better ghost-meaning dog name than the actual word – Ghost? Apparently not, because this elegant and brave dog has taken the hearts of many and made his way into many books, and many seasons of a famous book and tv series franchise – A Game of Thrones. We are, of course, talking about the most famous dire wolf in the world, Jon Snow’s faithful companion, the pristine white Ghost.

Ghost is one of six dire wolves found by House Stark children when they were just puppies. He was given to Jon Snow and the rest of his brothers and sisters to other Stark children. Ghost was the runt of the litter, so that was probably why Jon got him, as he is as well, in his way, the runt of the Stark litter. However, just like Jon, Ghost very quickly developed, grew, and proved himself to be the bravest and strongest of the bunch. He is an albino dire wolf, with beautiful white fur and red eyes, and his striking appearance does not leave anyone indifferent.

Ghost is a faithful companion to Jon. When he goes to Castle Black, Ghost always has his back and is ready to show his teeth to anyone who threatens Jon’s well-being. However, he is also very well-behaved, he never howls, and that is why any sound he makes means something must be wrong. For example, Ghost can sense the presence of wights, the undead creatures that can rise and act as merciless and sometimes brainless killers. Ghost also saved Sam’s life from a wight and the whole Night Watch team from a White Walker. He also managed to attack and kill a Thenn warrior during the Battle of Castle Black, proving his capabilities in combat, as well as once again showing where his allegiance lies. After Jon is betrayed by his fellow black brothers, Ghost howls and mourns for his best friend and brother. He slept beside Jon’s body until he eventually woke up.

Jon and Ghost have always had a special relationship and always looked out for each other. When Jon needed a helping hand, Ghost was always there to lend his power, and when Ghost is seemingly in danger, Jon is there to protect him and to do what is best for his friend, even though it means that they are separated. And that is exactly what happened. Before the Battle of the Bastards, Jon sent Ghost to Winterfell, to stay with Sansa, as he had heard that Ramsay Bolton killed Ghost’s brother Shaggydog.
