Dog Names Meaning Best Friend

In 1985, the lighthearted cop and dog comedy, "Turner and Hooch", hit theaters. The movie starred Tom Hanks as a detective named Scott Turner who teams up with a Dogue De Bordeaux. The Dogue, named "Hooch," is owned by  Scott's friend Amos. Amos is murdered so Scott takes in Hooch. Scott is at a loss as to what to do with Hooch. He has never owned a dog before so he decides to take the huge dog to the local veterinarian. However, she refuses to take Hooch in and encourages Scott to take him home. 

Scott takes Hooch home but the huge dog is extremely destructive and he again tries to take him back to the female veterinarian but is unsuccessful. The next day, Scott takes Hooch to a police wedding. At the wedding, Hooch identifies the wedding photographer as the man who killed his owner, Amos. The large dog chases the killer but is unsuccessful at catching the man. 

Eventually, Scott forms a close bond with Hooch as he realizes that the dog is also grieving for his friend. The two form a partnership and set out to catch Amos's killer. During one of the movie's most dramatic scenes, Scott and Hooch are both in a warehouse trying to apprehend the killer and his associates. Unfortunately, while trying to protect Scott, Hooch is shot and severely wounded. 

Scott rushes Hooch to the veterinarian but the big dog has lost too much blood and dies on the operating table. At the end of the movie, Scott apprehends all of the criminals, is promoted to police chief, and marries the lady veterinarian.  The veterinarian's dog has a litter of puppies and one of the puppies looks exactly like Hooch, who spent time briefly cavorting with the female dog while he was alive. 

The film, Turner and Hooch, is an iconic movie that has been widely watched by dog lovers around the world. It clearly displays the formation of a solid friendship between Scott and Hooch. Undoubtedly, Hooch becomes best friends with Scott during their brief time together and Scott is clearly heartbroken when the large dog passes away. 

The part of Hooch was played by a Dogue De Bordeaux dog named Beasley. Beasley was born in 1978. The canine actor only ever starred in the single movie, but he left a big impact on audiences' hearts. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 14.
