Dog Names Ending in vo in Pop Culture
Because dog names ending in "vo" can be quite rare, you may have a case of “namer’s remorse” when you think you find the perfect name. Is it a name? Will people think it’s weird? Do you think your dog’s vet will look at you funny? If you need reassurance, then it might be time to try and find a dog in pop culture, on TV, or in the media that shares the same name. You then get to enjoy the peace of mind from knowing your pooch shares a name with a potential pop star.
One dog with a name ending in "vo" could end up being a firm favorite in your household. His name is Tivo, and he appeared in global media coverage for his role as a therapy dog at a Wellness Center.
Tivo is a now-retired black Labrador therapy dog. In 2013, Loyola University Chicago welcomed the pooch onto their campus to help their students cope with stress. If a student was missing home, felt a lot of pressure from their studies, or needed a break, they could come and see Tivo.
The center’s associate director, Joan Holden, said that Tivo’s role was to make people feel good. The students could come and see him, pet him, rub his tummy, and spend time with him. Tivo would lap up all the attention, wagging his tail and making them feel better.
Loyola University Chicago saw the need for a therapy dog in 2012 and contacted Tops Kennels in Grayslake to find a dog that would suit the position. Tivo was their recommendation, a well-trained dog who could become a certified therapy dog with a little work.
Tivo made himself at home at the University immediately and began his working hours of 8 am to 6 pm, living with the university’s academic services associate provost Reverend Justin Daffron. Both Justin and Tivo lived in the Honors dorm. Once Justin left the university, Tivo moved in with the associate director, Joan Holden, in the suburbs.
While he was a therapy dog, he spent a lot of time on campus and was exceptionally popular with the students. In 2017, Tivo retired after five years of service, at age ten. He was starting to slow down, had arthritis, and had trouble moving around. He also had pain in his joints, for which he was on medication.
A fund was set up to help with Tivo’s retirement costs, with over $800 raised through the Loyola Department of Annual Giving. The Wellness Center now has a new therapy dog, Ashlar, who took over Tivo’s role. He’s three years old and comes from the Orphans of the Storm shelter in Grayslake.
