Introduction
Dog Names Ending in 'ter' in Pop Culture
Utilizing the name Mister, we look at Mister Peabody, a dog from the delightful cartoon TV series Rocky and Bullwinkle, which aired in the 1950's and 1960's. Mister Peabody is the smartest being in existence. His first name is Hector, but no one uses it ... he is simply referred to as "Mister Peabody" or "Peabody" in the animated TV series. He is quite successful, being an accomplished business magnate, Nobel laureate, gourmand, scientist and even an Olympic winner (two times). Like many of we humans, his life, though successful, seems to be lacking in something, with loneliness and sadness darkening many a day in his life. He decides to adopt a human child as his son. Mister Peabody happens to meet Sherman in an alley and rescues him from bullies just because he is a nice guy. After this incident, he becomes aware that Sherman has been orphaned and is homeless. Needless to say, two lives are joined to fill the gaps which both feel.
These pop culture dogs make it very apparent that canines have hearts and feelings, and those feelings are much like our human ones. They give us important reminders that canines need love and good treatment just as much as we humans.
