If you think your dog is loyal, you need to know about this dog. Constantine was a German Shepherd with loyalty to his family that lasted his entire life. This amazing pooch was noticed by the neighbors in the town of Tolyatti in the Samara Region of Russia in 1995 because he was constantly sitting on the side of the South Highway by the Auto Factory District of the town. In fact, when he saw a car, he would bark and run to it. He was always in that same place, and he constantly watched the highway for cars. 

The neighborhood people adored him and started giving him food and trying to get him to come in from the rain, snow, and harsh weather. But Constantine would not leave his spot. Finally, some people built him a doghouse, but he never would go in out of the weather because he was looking for something. Waiting for something. The people in the Samara Region of Russia soon found out what the beautiful dog was looking and waiting for. His family. 

After some research, the townspeople found out that the dog had been riding with his family, a man and a girl, who had a car crash in that spot. The girl was killed instantly, the man went to the hospital where he died a few hours later, but the dog lived. And he was sitting there in the spot where he last saw his family, waiting for them to come back and get him. The townspeople named him Kostya, which means faithful, and translates to Constantine in English. 

Constantine waited at that spot for seven years, being loved and cared for by the people in the town but would never leave the intersection. One day he was gone, and they found his body in the woods, where he had apparently died a natural death because there were no injuries. A billboard was erected for Constantine on that spot that said “Dog, teach us love and devotion,” but the sign kept blowing away, so the city started a campaign to raise money to build a statue of Constantine. 

The bronze statue, that stands almost five feet tall, was made by Oleg Klyuyev, a Ulyanovsk sculptor, and was built on a granite pedestal about five feet tall. It was placed on the same intersection where Constantine was seen every day, on South Highway and Lev Yashin Street. There was a dedication to the faithful Constantine on June 1, 2003, which was the 266th anniversary of the City of Tolyatti. The statue is now a memorial for newlyweds who consider it a symbol of undying fidelity. After marriage, the new couples rub the nose or the statue for luck on a happy life. This way, Constantine can go on living and being loved forever.
