Dog Names Ending in ce

When it comes to being cool, Ice the German Shepherd is serious about it. This hero dog has been serving with the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department since 2015 and has taken down many bad guys and girls. On one of his most recent busts in July of 2016, Ice went above and beyond his takedown support job when he was apprehending a suspect who was trying to flee from the police. 

It started in the early hours of the morning under darkness when the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department deputies and officers from the U.S. Forest Service were investigating a call about an illegal marijuana grow-op in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in Northern California. As the police closed in on the area, two of the suspects started to run, and Ice grabbed one of them and took him to the ground. 

Unfortunately, this suspect had other ideas and pulled out a large knife, brutally slashing at Ice several times. Although Ice was stabbed multiple times in the chest, muzzle, and face, he kept that suspect on the ground until the officers could cuff him and take him away. He did not even make a sound, so his handler did not even know he was injured until he got closer to him. Ice was covered in blood and starting to lose consciousness. 

Because they were in such a remote and rugged area, the officers had to take turns carrying Ice almost a mile to an area where the helicopter could land safely to take Ice to get treatment. He was flown to nearby Redding, California VCA Asher Animal Hospital where he was immediately taken into surgery to repair his many wounds. After several hours of intensive surgery, Ice was taken to recovery and was resting comfortably. 

Within a few days, Ice was up and walking around, and he returned to duty within a month. This tough pup has been in several busts before where he got hurt but never bad enough to require surgery, so this one was a little bit tougher to come back from. However, he made a full recovery and is back to chasing the bad guys again. Ice is also a personable pooch who is able to interact with the public and even visits schools and hospitals with his handler. 

In 2017, Ice was one of seven canines awarded the Humane Hero Dog Awards from the American Humane Society. He was also flown to a special event in Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel where the seven finalists and their handlers got to be filmed by the Hallmark Channel for a segment on hero dogs. Ice is still serving with the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department and taking down criminals to this day.
