Dog Names Ending in c

For those of you animal lovers who follow world events, you may recall a well-followed rescue attempt in the icy waters of the Polish Baltic Sea in January 2010.  "Baltic" is the nickname given to this unknown, most adventurous and tenacious of canines by the crew who facilitated his rescue.  It seems that in late January  2010, "Baltic" strolled down to the edge of the Vistula River in Poland, perhaps to gaze into the water on a crisp winter day.  One minute he was standing at the water's edge and the next he found himself floating down the river on a sheet of ice!  The thermometer dipped to minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 20 degrees Celcius) on the heels of a winter snap, making any water adventure arduous and risky for man or beast.  The ice sheet, also known as ice floe, was carried down the river and out into the Baltic Sea, taking our hero "Baltic" with it.  He was seen early on after the ice floe separated from the river's shore and firefighters attempted to rescue him.  Because the ice sheets kept shifting, they were unsuccess in their rescue attempt. So, "Baltic" kept floating out to sea, frequently slipping off the ice floe into the icy waters and valiantly struggling to get back on as quickly as possible.  

The crew of the Baltica (a Polish vessel of ocean scientists) spotted the dog about 15 miles out in the Baltic Sea while they were involved in research activities.  One of the researchers described the event as a harrowing experience as she watched the dog slip off the ice floe and crawl back upon it, frequently disappearing beneath the surface of the water.  Fearing that the dog was either under the ice floe or the ship, she assumed his demise, but this tough, tenacious traveler fought against the odds, coming back up time after time.  Eventually, the crew of the Baltica was able to lower a boat, maneuver it into position and bring the dog to the safety of the ship.  Identity unknown to them, the crew nicknamed him "Baltic" because that is where they rescued him.  Too weak to shake the water off his thick, furry coat, the crew wrapped "Baltic" in blankets to dry and warm him, eventually coming around, beginning to eat and wag his tail, encouraging interaction with his rescuers, who were then trying to locate his owner for return.  The world followed this four-day odyssey in those icy waters, with "Baltic's" owner unknown, the crew of the Baltica adopted him, though "Baltic" does not always voyage with them due to the anxieties caused by this experience.
