Introduction
Dog Names Ending in 'b' in Pop Culture
Bob the Dog, published in January of 2011, is a popular children’s book about a dog and his adventures. He and his friend Mark go out for a fun day in the park when Bob the Dog sees a yellow canary, and before he knows it, the canary flies into his mouth. Bob swallows the canary and feels terrible! This story is about decisions being made as to what to do and is an innocent tale of circumstance with characters who are super friendly.
If you are from Australia, you may have heard of Terowie Bob, the dog who travelled along the South Australian railroad in the 19th century. He was quite popular among many railroad workers, who enjoyed seeing him. They cared for him as if he was their own, and this happened from the time Bob was less than a year old!
He would catch the eye of several railway workers and would be returned to his owner several times, but he would always run off again to the railroad. He was eventually picked up in Adelaide as a stray dog but found a way to continue along the journeys in the trains. He would travel thousands of miles, get off the train, and hop on another. Many believe that Bob traveled all over the mainland, as he was seen pretty much everywhere. He showed much comfort riding on the trains, and made it clear to many that that is where he belonged.
Some people may remember Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, the popular television series for kids in the 1970’s. For many children, Mr. Rogers was in their living room for several years, day in and day out. Mr. Rogers was a kind man who taught children many life lessons. He also would venture off into the land of Make Believe, and in that land, there was a dog named Bob the Dog. Now, Bob the Dog was not a real dog, but a man dressed up as a dog. However, many young children knew him as a dog in the land of Make Believe and were excited to see him as he performed along with the other characters. He was quite energetic and got himself into a little trouble here and there with his antics, but loved football, fetch, and dancing. Bob the Dog was known to be and looked like a classic hound with his super long ears!
