Dog Names Ending in az

What you may find with picking a new dog name, especially dog names ending in 'az', is that you can come across celebrity dogs who share it too. While it’s often a coincidence, there’s no harm in telling people you planned it that way. You might have another reason for naming your dog, but if they appeared in a film, book, TV show, or is the dog of a celebrity, why not celebrate that too?

If you name your dog Taz, that might happen. Taz is a common dog name ending in 'az', but it’s also the name of a hero dog who saved her owner’s life. Danelle Ballengee was a fit athlete who spent her free time winning adventure races, scaling 54 Colorado mountains in two weeks, and winning Athlete of the Year awards. She was by no means a ‘sit on the couch and watch TV’ kind of girl.

On a day like any other, Danelle and her three-year-old mixed breed dog Taz she adopted at seven weeks old headed out on a trailhead not far from her home in Utah. They planned to go for a two-hour jog, but Danelle hit black ice and slid down the face of a rock.

She dropped 60 feet onto a rock shelf, fracturing and rotating her pelvis, fracturing three vertebrae, and splitting her sacrum almost in half. The temperatures dropped as night drew in, and she was able to keep warm thanks to Taz curling up next to her, and by doing crunches and tapping her feet.

By day three, however, things were looking grim. Taz began to realize something was wrong and that he hadn’t had anything to eat. He would keep taking off, running the trailhead, looking for help. When he didn’t find any on multiple trips, he returned to Danelle.

Eventually, on that third day, a neighbor reported Danelle missing and a search crew went out to look for her. They came across Taz on the trailhead biting and barking and didn’t realize he was Danelle’s dog. They considered calling the pound.

Eventually, it clicked, and Taz led the rescuers back to Danelle to save her life. Danelle had lost a third of her blood and had survived 56 hours – defying odds. However, she may not have lasted another night without Taz’s intervention.

Taz, the hero dog, went on the Today Show, and Danelle never failed to remember to spoil her best friend with steak whenever he wanted it. He also appeared in a book by Bob Babbitt called Never a Bad Day.
