Dog Names Ending in ag

The book, Kizzy Ann Stamps takes place in the 1960s when the color of one's skin had a big impact on education. Kizzy Ann is a little girl who is about to begin public school and has a lot of questions about her role within the school and worries about how she will be treated. While Kizzy Ann spends her days writing to her future teacher, she also spends her time with her Border Collie named Shag. Shag is Kizzy Ann's refuge. She takes solace in his calm demeanor and she shares all of her fears with him. 

Kizzy Ann and Shag plan on entering dog shows where Kizzy Ann knows they will do well. However, she is again worried that she will not be allowed to compete. Despite all of her concerns and worries, Kizzy Ann continues on, coping with the difficulty of having colored skin during this time period by talking through her issues with her dog. The story shows how a dog can be a great therapist!

The book leads the readers through Kizzy Ann's life and how she makes her decisions and copes with her issues. The story revolves around her relationship with Shag and there are many memorable scenes which show Shag's devotion to Kizzy Ann. One time, a snake is about to bite Kizzy Ann and Shag leaps in front of the little girl, essentially saving her life. Shag does recover from the snake bite and continues on to be Kizzy Ann's confidant. The sweet story goes even further but you will have to read the book to discover how Kizzy Ann and Shag fare in a world that is unfair to those born at in this specific era.  

Another classic story of a dog with a name ending in "ag" is within the book called Wag and Puff. This book, from the 1920s, was designed to help children learn to read and is full of simple words and a very basic plot line. A dog named Wag finds an owner and a cat named Puff also finds an owner. Sounds like Wag had a very simple dog life but he taught a lot of kids to read!
