Introduction

Dave the Barbarian is an animated TV show created by Doug Langdale for the Disney Channel. The show takes place in the fictional land of Udrogoth and primarily centers around our titular hero Dave, his two sisters (Candy and Fang,) and their wizened Uncle Oswidge. The show doesn't have an overarching narrative - most episodes consist of Dave and his family getting into zany adventures and hilariously awkward situations. The show ran from January 23rd, 2004 to January 22nd, 2005. Despite its short run, Dave the Barbarian has a small cult following of fans who watched the show as children and adolescents.

Dave the Barbarian Inspired Dog Name Considerations

Doug Langdale created Dave the Barbarian to serve as a love letter to the Heroic Fantasy genre. The show parodies classic Fantasy stories like Lord of the Rings, Conan the Barbarian, Dragonlance, and older tales like Jack, the Giant Killer. Dave, for instance, is a parody of the "Barbarian Hero" archetype - he has the strength of characters like Conan, Red Sonja, or Xena the Warrior Princess but lacks their courage and conviction. Most of the time, Dave's Sisters have to whip him into shape or outright save the day themselves. Even Dave's enchanted, sentient sword Lula is more assertive and headstrong than the barbarian who wields her! For all his shortcomings, Dave has a good heart and is perhaps the kindest character in the entire series. All of these traits combined make Dave in an incredibly endearing would-be hero who you can't help but root for throughout the series' twenty-one episodes.

We encourage you to watch Dave the Barbarian if you're a fan of self-referential comedies like Futurama or South Park. Doug Langdale has also worked on numerous other shows such as Dark Wing Duck, The House of Mouse, and TMNT (2012.) If you enjoy any of those shows, then you might also like Dave the Barbarian. Should Dave and his crazy family win you over, consider giving your dog a Dave the Barbarian inspired name to pay homage to this tragically short-lived show.
