Introduction

The American period drama Dangerous Liaisons, released in 1988, follows the story of Marquise de Merteuil, portrayed by Glenn Close, a cruel and wealthy widow scorned by one of her multiple lovers, the Comte de Bastide. As revenge, she enlists the assistance of an old friend, an equally unscrupulous man known as the Vicomte de Valmont, portrayed by John Malkovich, in order to destroy both the innocence and the reputation of the virginal young woman to whom the Comte de Bastide is now engaged. While the scheming pair are able to do a great deal of damage to their enemies, both mentally and physically, they also end up orchestrating their own downfalls in the end.

Dangerous Liaisons Inspired Dog Name Considerations

There are many ways to find inspiration for a name for your new canine companion. Many individuals will choose a name based on a specific meaning that is particularly fitting for their dog, while others may look towards their hound's breed, choosing a related name, or to their dog's origin, searching for a name that tells their story. Another source of inspiration can be found in your favorite books, television shows, or movies. Both the movie, Dangerous Liaisons and the book it was based on, the French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, were well received. Some may find inspiration with the characters in the novel or movie, choosing a name like Raphael for a dog who seems to enjoy music or picking a name like Comte or Comtesse for a dog that exhibits an air of nobility, while others may wish to honor a favorite actor or actress in the movie, such as Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer, John Malkovich, or Keanu Reeves. Places that were featured in the movie also can prove inspiring, such as places like Corsica or Paris, or on accolades that were received by the movie, such as Tony or London.
