Introduction
The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is a primitive breed that closely resembles the wolf. Many historians believe that the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is closely related to the wolf. They have excellent hearing and sight as well as a great sense of smell. Their endurance and stamina are extensive. Some would argue that this is not an ancient breed, but rather a new breed dating back to only the 1950s; however, there is evidence that these dogs have interbred with wolves within the Czech Republic for centuries. No matter the origins of the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, these impressive dogs do require a specific home. Before committing to a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, make sure you thoroughly research the breed and speak with a reputable breeder honestly about your home and family. A reputable breeder will guide you through the process of picking the right dog for your family.
Czechoslovakian Wolfdog Dog Names in Pop Culture
Many movies, music videos, and even photo shoots have used the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog as a stand in for a real wolf because they have been domesticated and are trainable, whereas a wolf, even one tamed, could be a liability. Native Canines located in Michigan has two Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs that have appeared in print ads, movies, and most recently Yelawolf’s music video featuring Eminem. Meigunn, also affectionately called Mikey, can be seen stalking prey through the tall grass in Yelawolf’s video for his song Best Friend. Native Canines’ other Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, Migwans, has not gained the popularity that Meigunn has but he has still been used in print ads and private photo shoots. Meigunn has collected a number of fans and even boasts his own fan page on Facebook. Native Canines promotes their Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs as being 100% recall trained and since they are dogs and not wolves, they are able to travel without all the legal red tape that wolves encounter. A dog, even a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, can fly within the United States with only a health certificate issued by a certified veterinarian.
Aside from having Meigunn and Migwans star in videos, photos, and movies, Native Canines also breeds Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs. Do not think, however, that just because they have puppies to sell they will automatically sell to you. Native Canines have set rules in place for all puppy owners to meet before they will consider placing a puppy, they call this the “Must Haves” list and it includes things like you must own your own home that is located outside of city limits. You must also have researched your state, county and city or township laws about owning a dog classified as a wolf dog. Some laws classify the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog as a hybrid and they are illegal to own. A fenced yard is also another must. Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs can be rough and do require significant training, therefore Native Canines will not place a puppy with a family with small children or in a home that has other intact dogs. This is a breed that does not thrive in a home with multiple dogs but rather in a home where they are given a lot of one-on-one attention. They require a strong leader and do require that new owners go through training classes with their new Czechoslovakian Wolfdog to ensure they can properly handle their new puppy. The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog can be a very destructive dog and must have a job to perform. They also must have a set pack order and they will become dependent on their family, or pack as they will see you. It takes a special home to devote the next 12 to 15 years to a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog as these dogs rarely can be successfully re-homed.
Czechoslovakian Wolfdog Dog Name Considerations
After you have done all your research and decided the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is the breed for you, locate a responsible breeder for your new puppy. Unfortunately, because of the temperament of the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, it is not recommended that you rescue one from a shelter or other organization unless you are a seasoned dog handler/trainer with the knowledge to properly re-train a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog that been surrendered or rescued. Instead, look for a young puppy that comes from a reputable breeder that is willing to help you along the way to get your puppy properly trained and be a loyal, well-adjusted member of your family.
Once you find your new puppy, it will be time to think of the perfect name for them. Many people look for names that mean wolf, even using words from other languages for wolf such as Lobo which is the Portuguese word for wolf or Tala which is the Sioux word for wolf. Others will look for names that have wolf in their meaning such as Freki who was Odin’s wolf or Lupe which is river of the wolf. If you are not overly fond of finding a name that means wolf, there are plenty of names out there that would be perfect for your new Czechoslovakian Wolfdog. Get to know your new puppy’s personality and you will find a name that is a perfect fit.
