Introduction

The Coptic or Coptic Egyptian was the latest stage of the Egyptian language and was used in Egypt until the 17th century as their official language. Although it is not a native language anymore, it is still spoken in the Coptic Catholic and Orthodox churches. The Coptic language is similar to Greek as it used the same type of glyphs used in the Greek alphabet. Giving your dog a Coptic Dog name is a terrific idea no matter what kind of breed you have, but if you have an Egyptian dog such as the Pharaoh Hound, it would be even more awesome.

Coptic Dog Name Considerations

The word Copt is derived from the Greek name Aigyptos, which was actually derived from Hikaptah, which is one of the names for Memphis, the first capital of Egypt. In more modern days, the name Coptic is related to Egyptian Christians. Although Ancient Egypt is known for its love of cats, the dog was just as popular and was domesticated in the Pre-Dynastic era to be used as hunters and companions. If you are looking for Coptic dog names, you may be of the Coptic religion or are fascinated with the Copts history, or you may be lucky enough to have a Coptic dog, which is actually a Pharaoh Hound.

The Pharaoh Hound is an ancient breed dating back to approximately 3000 BC although some believe they had been around long before that since they are depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphics. This breed is described as goofy but intelligent, muscular, athletic, and sleek, weighing about 50 pounds and standing approximately 23 inches tall. This pupster is an excellent hunter while still being a lovable family companion and furever friend. Choosing a Coptic dog name for your pooch, whatever the breed, is a fun idea and there are many names to choose from including Greek gods and goddesses, martyrs, Popes, kings, and queens. Here are some of our favorites.
